Obama Pardons Turkeys While Taking Final Shot at Romney

Because, as we will no doubt hear a few times in the next months, “I won”:

President Obama pardoned Cobbler and Gobbler, a pair of turkeys from Virginia, on Wednesday in the White House Rose Garden, taking part in the annual presidential tradition and pageantry.

Joined by daughters Sasha and Malia, the president jokingly began his remarks with references to the recently concluded presidential campaign.

“They say that life is all about second chances. And this November, I could not agree more,” said Obama to slight laughter. “So in the spirit of the season, I have one more gift to give, and it goes to a pair of turkeys named Cobbler and Gobbler. The American people have spoken, and these birds are moving forward.”

Buzzfeed points out that the “one more gift” crack is referencing Romney’s comment to supporters about Obama voters receiving “gifts” before the election.

Amazing that the president could apparently politicize a totally non-political tradition.
