McCain Calls for Special Senate Committee to Investigate Benghazi

Barack Obama must be quaking in his urban outfitter boots.

McCain, Arizona senator and ranking Republican on the Senate Committee on Armed Services, told FoxNews.com he wants a committee investigation because “that’s the only way for the American people to find out what happened.”

He made the request with fellow Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham, South Carolina, and Kelly Ayotte, New Hampshire, who have helped lead the charge on Capitol Hill for more answers.

U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and U.S. diplomat Sean Smith were killed in a Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.  Several hours later, two former Navy SEALs,  Tyrone Woods  and Glen Doherty, were killed by a mortar shell in a second attack on a nearby CIA annex.

The letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, asks for a temporary Select Committee to investigate events that led to the murders and the administration’s response to the attacks.

Sen. Reid will get right on that. Right after the Senate holds its closed door hearings on November 15. That’s after the elections, you say? Exactly.

Obama’s team will be even more helpful in the quest to get at the truth that Obama already knows but is not disclosing.

Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Saturday, “when the final report is completed, it will be released.”

“This is a tragedy but this is not the time to politicize a tragedy,” she continued.

The Obama campaign has come up with a couple of strategies for playing the Benghazi string out past the election. First, they flat out lied about what the attack was for two weeks. After that, they have gone the route of cover-up by Beltway insider investigation. Hillary Clinton controls the so-called review board that’s “investigating” the attack. That board will not report anything before the election, as it’s composed of people loyal to Mrs. Clinton and they know what their duty is. That duty is not to find the truth, but to keep the truth hidden. Once that board has come up with a sufficient smokescreen that acknowledges “mistakes were made” but doesn’t actually name any mistake-maker anyone has ever heard of, the State Department says it will investigate the investigation. That’s probably the “report” to which Psaki refers above. The American people should expect that report sometime in the spring of 2021.

The only investigation we really need is to get a straight story about what happened that night, from President Obama. He was there. He was made aware of the attack. He was in command at the time of the attack and either acted or didn’t. The next day he mischaracterized the attack’s origins. Why? Why can’t he just answer that question? Why did you blame a movie when, as you well knew during the attack, a movie had nothing at all to do with it?

The only way we will ever get any real answers is to defeat Obama on Tuesday and retake the Senate. If he wins and the Democrats retain the Senate, they will play this “investigation” string as long as they possibly can. Reid cares nothing for his reputation, and neither do the Democrats who keep making him majority leader or the voters of Nevada who keep electing him. He has made the Senate an adjunct of the Obama campaign. That’s all it is now. The House could draft a mountain of impeachment articles, but the Reid Senate will do with them what it has done with all those budgets the House has passed in the past few years.

As for the “investigation” string, as long as there are Clintons’ hands on that string, it can be played out for a very long time.
