The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste designated its taxpayer heroes in its 2011 congressional ratings released this week, scoring lawmakers on 120 votes in the House and 38 votes in the Senate that dealt with fiscal belt-tightening and spending cuts.
In the House, Reps. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio), Tom Graves (R-Ga.) and Ron Paul (R-Texas) achieved the highest scores with a grade of 98 percent.
No members earned a perfect score in 2011; in 2010 there were six “Taxpayer Super Heroes” with 100 percent scores.
There were 76 “Taxpayer Heroes” with a grade of 80 percent or above in 2011, 47 percent lower than the 144 in 2010.
In 2011, Sens. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) each scored 100 percent and took home the “Taxpayer Super Hero” title.
“I’m honored received this distinction,” Toomey said. “As public servants, we have a responsibility to advocate for taxpayers and make sure their hard-earned money is used in the most responsible manner.”
The lowest scores, putting them at the bottom of the “hostile” category with just 3 percent each, in the House were Reps. Corrine Brown (D-Fla.), Andre Carson (D-Ind.), Brad Miller (D-N.C.), and Bobby Rush (D-Ill.).
The lowest scoring senators, with 5 percent each, were Sens. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).
