Today President Obama delivered remarks regarding the 9-11 anniversary. He talked about what a difficult day it was, and I’m sure that he sounded unifying tones and allowed that America will never forget. I honestly don’t know what he said. When he appeared on my screen, I hit the mute button.
Whatever the president said with words, he said much more powerfully with his actions. In 2009, Obama hired Van Jones to work in his administration. Van Jones was given the role of “green jobs czar,” and was placed in a position outside congressional review.
Why Jones was placed outside that scrutiny soon became clear. Jones was not only a communist agitator who had publicly called for the release of cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, he was a 9-11 Truther. In 2004 Jones signed a petition on 911Truth.org demanding an investigation and suggesting that President George W. Bush deliberately allowed 9-11 to happen. Jones would eventually claim confusion over what the group stood for, and claim that he had never been a Truther, but that was just a game to save his job.
Mike Berger, a spokesman for 911Truth.org, told the Washington Times over the phone that all of the signers had been verified by their group. He said 9/11Truth.org board members “spoke with each person on the list by phone or through email to individually confirm they had added their name to that list.”
President Obama hired a man who took an insane, anti-American position on the terrorist atrocities of 9-11. Obama did not fire Van Jones once his Trutherism came to light. Jones was allowed to resign, with the thanks of the president for his service.
The Obama White House would eventually claim that Jones had not been vetted, and that that was why his past had not come to light until months after he was in the administration. But the Obama administration knew enough about Jones’ history to hire him in the first place, and to put him in a position that was outside congressional review. Is it plausible to believe that they did not know about his communism, his advocacy for a cop killer or his past support for a heinous 9-11 conspiracy theory?
