Adding Paul Ryan to the GOP ticket tells us that he is squeaky clean. The Romney campaign has been the best-funded and most detail-oriented of all the campaigns this cycle, on both sides. Ryan getting the nod means he has gotten past an extremely rigorous process.
Adding Ryan to the ticket tells us that the Romney campaign will, as Roger wrote, be about the economy from dawn to dusk. Ryan is an intellectual powerhouse but he is not a bomb-thrower. Ryan is solidly conservative, dynamic, and full of ideas. His wheelhouse is reforming entitlements and undoing the damage that the present administration is doing through excessive out-of-control spending. He may be the best-equipped person in the nation to articulate just how dangerous the president’s policies are, and he can be inspirational even when going wonk on the federal budget. He is courageous like few leaders we have in Washington. Ryan is not the demographic/generational game-changer that a Marco Rubio or Susana Martinez might have been, but his presence on the ticket will keep the campaign’s focus where it belongs, on saving the country from our current president and the fiscal nightmare he has intentionally created. Paul Ryan is an inspired and courageous choice.
Paul Ryan is an intellectual engine. With Paul Ryan on the ticket, America has a real comeback team now.

Wasn’t Ryan also given the brushoff by Obama in 2009, in a meeting with GOP members of Congress, with his “I won”?
No, that was the other “Young Gun”, Eric Cantor.
Thanks.
Thank you for the nice collection of decisive moments.
There is another positive side to this choice:
Romney 2012
Romney 2016
Ryan 2020
Ryan 2024
It can be the beginning of our “long march”, to subvert the subversion.
Add
Rubio 2028
Rubio 2032
Tebow/Beiber 2032 and 2036
“Ryan is not the demographic/generational game-changer that a Marco Rubio or Susana Martinez might have been”
Ryan is one year older than Rubio.
My God, the energy of Ryan is unbelievable and he has the best, most complete grasp of facts of anyone in the Country. You could tell Obama KNOWS Ryan can blow him out in any debate on the Campaign trail. I expect Obama’s argument to devolve rapidly into; yeah, but I’M BLACK.
Well said crackermike. Obama likes being around the Hollywood and MSM crowd, you know the ones that go on Jeopardy and look like fools. He can’t stand Ryan because he is a mental midget in comparison.
Obama is a mental midget in a room full of fifth-graders.
Obama proves this statement every time he uses a teleprompter in front of children.
There are campaign commercials right there. Do some excerpts from the Geithner video with his Eddie Haskell grin and his deferring to the commission. You know, the one that was completely ignored.
Or play this excerpt of Ryan laying it all out. Charlie Rose even tries to advocate for Obama and feeds Ryan the moment to accede Obama would overlay another layer of government-given rights.
Just watching a few of the videos already up on Ryan tells me he’ll be a force to be reckoned with. Him and Wassarman in front of the Capitol and Ryan schooling her because he wants to start an “Adult Conversation” over the budget. Gold in the can.
Until that February 2010 meeting, the only competence President Obama was familiar with was in destroying people and institutions.
Too bad it’s too long for a bumber sticker.
You’re insulting Ryan by calling him “intellectual”. It’s the intellectuals in the Obama administration who are responsible for this mess. Ryan is simply numerate. That’s a rare quality in DC. Even the Nobel laureate running DoE doesn’t seem to be able to analyze financial data.
Have we all become too jaded to know, just by looking at him in action, what a good man he is?
Between dog-rescuer Romney and Ryan, which one would you rather have babysitting your kids? A tossup, right? Either would be just fine.
Then apply that same question to Ostupid and Biteme.
Scary, huh?
If you can’t trust them with your kid, how in hell can you trust them with your country?
Ryan is an excellent pick. Romney needs to play to win and his full potential (and stop this just trying not to lose).
And you are right John J, on character I would trust Romney or Ryan in that manner. While I am not suggesting the Obamas or even the Bidens are not good parents (I dislike their policies which are a disaster), I would definitely not trust them as much.
Here’s another thing to think about: If we end up with an evenly-divided Senate, who would you want casting the deciding vote, Ryan or Biden?
Paul Ryan is my hero but I think he is not the most helpful VP pick. There is little (save debate Biden – not a big challenge) that he could not do from his seat in Congress. Romney’s challenge is NOT to prove how he will fix the economy, government spending and entitlements. The challenge is to get elected! What is needed is an extrovert to make up for Romney’s boiled owl demeanor; someone the public likes. IMO someone like Rubio – appealing, well-spoken, with a compelling story, might be better. Not to mention Rubio provides a solid defense against the white male ruling class meme. Romney is shooting himself in the foot by not reaching out to public political figures who have the skills he lacks. Imagine if he could put his personal feelings aside and get Newt to take on the press for him – or even take some private lessons! Maybe after the convention… Still if Romney doesn’t want to waste his time and his donors’ money, he needs to enlist the talent of others to help his many deficiencies appealing to the public. I am so sick of Republican candidates who don’t really want to win.
I can’t agree. Obama wants to make this a battle of personality. Honestly, if he succeeds, he wins. And the Republicans will deserve to lose. This is the one time in my lifetime where the choice is so stark. Obama’s policies have failed. Period. End of story. Make this election about policy, and the Republicans win. The facts are on their side. There’s nothing the Obama team can do to change the fact that we’re digging ourselves deeper in the hole and that the public knows that. If we make this about who’s “cooler” Obama or Romney’s VP, the top of the ticket looks like a loser.
Me Too: Rubio is a fine new face and certainly has a future. But, choosing Rubio would have been capitulating to identity politics. That’s what got us Obama. Choosing Ryan was the bold high road of merit.
Rubio would have taken a Republican away from the Senate with no guarantee that a Republican would have replaced him. We cannot afford to lose any seats in the Senate.
I like Ryan. He has a genuine passion for numbers and budgets. He’s like the Clark Howard of government.
– that the advice you give Mitt in your postings here are the kind Ryan will suggest to Romney’s team.
I am delighted with the choice of Ryan- I fell off the Rubio bandwagon when he sponsored Dream Act (oxymoron for giveaways to illegals children) and then his McCain reaction to Michele Bachman asking this admin to justify it’s stuffing our govt with Muslim Brotherhood sympathizers, a govt that asks us to accept that without question (fascist)
Video ONE will never be watched by DEMS and if they do watch, they will not understand it- numbers, facts, reality, are not able to be seen by people who deliberately shut their eyes tight and hold hands over their ears while singing LALALA.
The hatchet jobs and poo slinging will soon follow- scared DEMS are MEAN and nasty and will lie, cheat and steal their way to victory by smearing two of the more decent fellows to ever participate in USA govt. Sad for America and sad for us.
And when that occurs, as it surely will, everyone should pay close attention, and note to themselves: character does matter. Who should lead us back out our national situation? An ideological, barely American crypto-Fascist and his bumbling sidekick, or two decent men of good character?
“You shouldn’t worry about us, so much as you should worry about the bond markets.”
THANK YOU!! Finally, hearing from someone in D.C. who gets it. Political BS is just that BS. At the end of the day, billions of dollars are going to have a vote. And that vote coming in our favor is dependent on our acting like mature adults.

With Ryan on the GOP ticket, the Obama campaign is boxed in on policy and will roll out attack after attack on Ryan. The Obama campaign will wear out the race card. The Obama campaign will wear out the “fairness” card. The Obama campaign will wear out the class warfare card. As I am writing this, the Obama campaign has already called Ryan “radical.” We will see these attacks in ads, in headlines, and even by the paid operatives who post comments on blogs. They cannot beat Romney-Ryan on policy, so they will have to destroy them both personally. The Obama campaign will run the risk of hitting that tipping point beyond which attacks become counterproductive, but they will have no choice. On substance they are already beaten: Mitt Romney is a tower on the private sector, and Paul Ryan is a lion on federal spending. Ryan also brings his Catholic beliefs to the table and can articulate how dangerous Obama’s policies are not just fiscally, but in terms of freedom of faith.
Classic Ryan above. No one that I know(with a possible exception of Newt) can successfully take on Tiny Tim and win with his melodious bullshit parade of; it’s all Bush’s fault but we are slowly driving the bus out of the ditch even though the wheels keep turning in the mud.<P.
Ryan is one of the few who does his homework and than has the intellectual grist and the guts to take on the top of the top of the commie kabal, tiny Tim Geithner.
Mr Tatler has written a great piece. He has also accurately described what will happen. From now on its gonna be class warfare vs. racism vs. fairness since the regime has nada to run on.
O’Axel may never again sleep until early November when they suffer a humiliating defeat from the disease of Pinocchioitis which will reveal a three foot long schnozz. Axel will pay the price of the countless lies he will be forced to spin in a failing effort.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Sorry forgot to sign in on the above.
About 5:28, see Obama give Ryan the one finger salute, typical of the way he has governed and will campaign.
BHO’s expression while Ryan schooled him on fiscal matters reminded me of BHO’s expression while Netanyahu schooled him on Middle East security matters (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAlJ6erL-HY).
Couldn’t agree more. Obama’s spokesholes have started opining that, in the words of one ‘strategist,’ Ryan’s selection made her “drop to her knees and thank God.” The Limbaugh rule is that when a dem is in sincerity mode about what conservatives should do they really mean the opposite of what they’re saying. The operative’s comment fits into this mold.
And, yes, they will attack Romney and Ryan and, yes, they will at some point exhaust people’s patience.
O and his minions don’t seem to realize that most Americans have been very indulgent toward his manifest shortcomings as president. His known personal shortcomings as reflected in the many claims in the blogosphere about everything from his birthplace to whether he actually graduated from Columbia in ‘83 to his dirtiness as a politician and a lot more in between are probably the tip of the iceberg. O might think that he lives a charmed life—most scoundrels do, but it catches up with the best of them sooner or later.

What’s with the annoying g.d. background music in the healthcare vid?
Can we have a Ryan/Romney ticket instead?
I’m afraid that I am deeply suspicious of everything Romney does, and his pick of Ryan verges on being unfathomable based on everything in Romney’s history. Why would Romney pick somebody who changes the game to a real contest about the future of the country when he has spent the last three years arguing a case of competence and business acumen, and DODGING the really big issues?
One sinister possibility is that the establishment republicans have decided that this is the way to neuter Ryan, the individual who has probably done more than anybody else to shake up the status quo in get-along go-along make-a-buck-and-smile republican circles.
If that is a trend that Romney wants to continue, then he is a bigger stealth candidate even than obama was and is.
And don’t tell me that Romney did it to improve his chances because the smartest and most-objective analysts are saying that his chances are now reduced. Go read Sean Trende and Nate Silver, two guys not noted for partisan hackery. They both think Ryan is a risky pick who increases the chances of a big obama victory.
And don’t tell me that forcing a conversation about Medicare/Social Security is a winning strategy either. Much as many conservatives may like the idea of having it out, betting on the ability of the American voting public to parse the most complex and emotional topic in the country is a bad bad bet.
So I just don’t get it. And I’m deeply deeply suspicious. Maybe Romney really is a stealth candidate who has long harbored the desire to be a transformational figure for the good of the country, rather than an uber-ambitious pol who will machine gun any republican who gets in his way. If so, picking Ryan is the first clue in 64 years.
It’s true. You don’t get it. For one thing, Paul Ryan is still campaigning for his Congressional seat, and like Joe Lieberman will probably retain it if his VP candidacy fails, if not the republican governor Scott Walker will appoint someone.
Secondly, if you studied Romney’s long and successful business career, his selection of Ryan is a confident move, based on what is best for the country (let’s call this move post-political), and it is perfectly consistent with Romney’s character.
I understand you ‘don’t trust Romney’. I suggest you become better informed to alleviate further anxiety.
There is absolutely no difference between Ryan, Obama, and Romney. Paul Ryan is just another New World Order Shill: http://www.dailypaul.com/248470/official-thread-is-paul-ryan-a-nwo-shill-links-data
The only problem I see with Ryan…
is that his first name is not Jack.
Is that you Clancy? I loved all your books, but do me a favor and write another one without collaborators. Nobody, but nobody will ever be a good enough substitute for you.
Ryan quoting Daman Wayans,, one of Obama friends, “homey don’t play that!”
And mr. Ryan didn’t even need a teleprompter. WOW!!!!!
– wool likely have Moynihan play Ryan to mock him even though Ryan isn’t at all fat.
I expect Biden to wee wee on himself when he debates Ryan. We’ll never know, of course, Biden sure can’t be enthused about it.
I suspect the lamestream media’s reaction will be even more interesting now compared to the same-old from the WH; as stated above, policy isn’t their issue, so what Ryan crimes against humanity will they come up with to sling against the wall, hoping something sticks?
I wonder what DNC Chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is saying now that the Catholic church is SUING the Federal Government to stop it from forcing it’s members to support the abortion mandates in Obamacare? What a difference a year makes, right Debbie? Things that you said were definitely NOT in the bill are magically in there now. I guess you had to pass it to find out what was in it, right? Obamacare is filled with lies, lies, and more lies that are designed to bankrupt this nation and destroy our healthcare system as we know it. But that’s what the liberals are famous for, spouting out endless lies to support their own agenda. Just like Obamacare would REDUCE our insurance costs (which are still skyrocketing) and that it will improve our healthcare (when in fact more doctors are going to leave their medical practices because of Obamacare). But to people like Debbie, there’s nothing wrong here, nothing to see, just move along and don’t you DARE ask any questions.
Well, in November Debbie’s little time in the sun ends and she can go back to being the political hack from Florida she’s always been. Make the change. It’s crunch time and we need your vote. After all, do you really want another four years of people like Debbie telling you her version of the “truth?”
Those 3 video clips you included in the article were really impressive. When it comes to debating budgetary or economic matters,Ryan is hell on wheels and has no peer. He should be a very strong addition to the campaign, and he also returns the debate back to where it belongs, budgets and the economy. Ryan was also interviewed beside Romney on 60 minutes today and he loked realy impressive there too. He got asked a few tough questions that could have easily tripped lesser candidates, and handled them perfectly. He manages to defend our positions, and skewer Obama, and even manages to seem nice while he does it. Excellent choice, home run by romney.
Here is a fitting successor to Buckley-like conservatives. Very good!!
Did not know Congressman Ryan. What a pleasant surprise.
There is one big factor in their winning. How to tell the “dyed in the wool” democrats that Obama and his adm are NOT democrats, but marxists.
The black racists is another factor but nothing will change that because many are on the “dole” of the welfare state and money talks. I read where some good blacks are disillusioned with Obama and will not vote for him.
There are more whites who get the “dole” then blacks in this country!!!
