Florida Prosecutor Poisons George Zimmerman's Potential Jury Pool

Florida prosecutor Angela Corey today released tapes of calls George Zimmerman made from jail, over the protests of defense attorneys who wanted to prevent the calls’ release. Among them is a recording of an unnamed witness, called “Witness 9,” who makes a few unsubstantiated and unverifiable claims against Zimmerman.

A young woman told Florida authorities that suspect George Zimmerman had demonstrated racist behavior before his arrest in the Trayvon Martin murder investigation, according to new evidence released today by Special Prosecutor Angela Corey.

Zimmerman’s family, said the woman, identified only as “witness 9,” “don’t like black people if they don’t act like white people. They like black people if they act white.”

She further alleges that Zimmerman’s mother opposes President Obama’s re-election “because he is black. I am a racist.” It should be noted that Zimmerman’s family is multi-racial and includes members who are black. The witness says she never directly saw George Zimmerman disparage black people.

The witness also claims that Zimmerman tried to molest her when she was six. Problem: He was eight. She claims that this behavior went on for a decade, but there is at this point no evidence to support her. Her claims are not directly relevant to the second degree murder charges that Zimmerman faces, but the recording’s release can make it more difficult for Zimmerman to get a fair trial.
