Obama to Ohio Man: Turn Off Fox News

He was joking, just joking of course:

PARMA, Ohio — At an unscheduled stop at Ziggy’s Pub and Restaurant, an Amherst, Ohio bar, President Barack Obama suggested that the channel be changed when he was made aware that televisions were showing Fox News.

The exchange, per pooler Mark Landler:

As he thanked the group for their support, one of them, Jeff Hawks, gestured to one of the TV’s and said, “You’re in a building that has Fox news on.”Obama suggested that Hawks ask for it to be changed. “The customer is always right,” he said.

“I’ll arm-wrestle you for your vote,” Hawks said to Obama. “No, I’ll play basketball for your vote,” he replied.

UPDATE: Landler adds, in an addendum to a new pool report, that Obama’s remarks were in jest…

Yeah. But not really. Obama ought to be savvy enough to know that identifying with Fox would be identifying with the highest rated cable news net and might earn him a vote or two, but he has shown a thin skin regarding Fox in the past. The Democratic Party boycotted the network for a while in 2008-2010 and some still boycott it. A few years prior to that, Howard Dean suggested that if he was elected president he would go Chavez and shut Fox down. Obama and the Democrats just can’t handle the fact that there is one network out there that doesn’t toe the leftist line 24/7.

So sure, he was joking in Ohio, but it was one of those jokes where you say what you’re really thinking.
