Ya Don't Say: 'Young illegal immigrants’ amnesty could tighten competition for jobs, college'

Says the Washington Post. Using the a-word, even: Amnesty. That’s unusually honest of them.

President Obama has just opened a floodgate of opportunity for young illegal immigrants in the United States, but could it squeeze the aspirations of legal Americans in the process?

Yes. So he has a gift for them in his pocket, which will be some sort of student loan forgiveness.

[O]pponents of illegal immigration warned that the policy could create significant new competition for jobs and university slots at a time of nationwide recession and numerous states’ efforts to curb public spending.

“I see a tidal wave coming,” said Brad Botwin, president of Help Save Maryland, a group that opposes legalization for undocumented immigrants. “Half of our college graduates today can’t find jobs, and the unemployment rate for high-school-aged Americans is extremely high. This is unfair to U.S. citizens and legal immigrants who are out there struggling to get ahead.”

It is unfair, ironic coming from the president who talks endlessly about “fairness,” but he doesn’t see the irony and doesn’t care about the law. Obama sees the federal government as a means to distribute whatever gifts it takes to get him enough votes to get re-elected. He grants amnesty one day, and then grants some other gift to some other constituency that he needs the next day.

By the way, we heard all day Friday that Obama’s fiat policy could impact 800,000 illegal aliens. The Post came up with a different number: About 1.4 million. Nearly twice the number that Obama and DHS were bandying about one day ago.
