Hours after the White House released tax returns for President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, Mitt Romney’s campaign released his 2011 tax extension.
“Sometime in the next six months, and prior to the election, Gov. Romney will file and release the 2011 return when there is sufficient information to provide an accurate return,” said Andrea Saul, campaign spokeswoman.
In January, the campaign released his 2010 tax return and 2011 tax estimates that showed about $6.2 million in taxes on $45 million in income over the two tax years.
The tax extension released today indicates an estimated 2011 tax liability of $3,226,623 and $3,434,441 in payments.
The campaign also released a voucher of $887,000 made in estimated 2012 tax payments.
Obama’s senior adviser David Plouffe challenges Romney to release his returns in an interview on Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital with Al Hunt” airing this weekend.
The returns are “just sitting in a box or vault or something,” Plouffe said. “The American people want to have trust in their leaders.”
