The War on the War on Women (and Your Wallet)

Hilary Rosen’s firm represents Sandra Fluke. How conveeeeenient.

Hilary Rosen and her Democratic public relations firm has been deeply involced in recent public relations battle between Republicans and Democrats in the so-called “War on Women.”

When Sandra Fluke was at the center of her own media controversy, Hilary Rosen’s public relations firm stepped into help.

“We are proud to provide pro-bono support to Sandra Fluke, an incredibly courageous young woman who is standing up for the rights of women everywhere in the face of sustained, personal attacks,” Hilary Rosen said in a statement to Erick Wemple on March 20. “This week, we began helping Sandra, a full-time law student, manage the enormous volume of incoming media requests that came to a head when she was publicly disparaged for advocating for contraception coverage.”

Relevance? Hilary Rosen is a savvy media specialist on the left. She is connected directly to one of the Democrats’ earlier “war on women” gambits, now she’s walking point against Ann Romney, or was until she talked herself into a corner and apologized. She has visited the Obama White House on average once a month, far more often than far more important figures. Her work for Fluke may be pro bono, but it’s part of the Democrats’ larger effort to force you and me to spend our money on their policy preferences even if it violates our fundamental rights. They’re not about choice, but about force.

None of what Rosen said or did this week was accidental, and she never went rogue. She was doing her part as a foot soldier in the Obama re-election effort. But the out of touch Obama campaign didn’t realize that Rosen’s shot at Ann Romney would offend so many Americans, deeply and personally. Speaking for myself, it reminded me anew of everything that’s wrong with the modern Democratic Party, its intolerance and its dishonesty and its antipathy to the choices that many millions of Americans make every day. Hilary Rosen is a prime example of the radicalism and anti-traditional family attitudes that permeate and dominate that party. I only regret that she didn’t launch this attack in October, when more Americans will be thinking about their vote. This fracas will be long down the memory hole by then.

As an example of the Obama campaign’s dishonesty, Democrats love to tout the president’s signing of the equal pay law. They love to use that law to beat Republicans over the head and make more political inroads into the private sector. They’re about force, not choice. But where Democrats have the power to lead by example, they fail.

This documentprovides the names, titles, and salaries of 454 of Obama’s workers. While women at the Obama White House earned median annual salaries of $60,000 last year, the equivalent remuneration for their male colleagues was some $71,000 — roughly 18 percent higher.

This gender inequality is slightly worse than the sex-based income gap at Obama’s former Senate outposts on Capitol Hill and in Illinois. Disclosure filings show that men who worked for Obama’s legislative offices earned 17 percent more than women on his staff. If anything, the pay disparity between men and women on Team Obama has widened marginally as his power has grown, along with his pay.

Why so many women left behind?

Because he can, that’s why. Hilary Rosen and Sandra Fluke and Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the leftist base will never hold his feet to the fire for it.
