Video: Wounded Warrior Dan Moran (Capt, USMC - Ret) on His 'Mentor' and 'Friend,' Gov. Rick Perry

Dan Moran graduated from Texas A&M university and volunteered for the US Marine Corps. After graduating from Officer Candidate School and being commissioned as a Marine 2Lt, he was deployed to Iraq twice, serving in Fallujah and Ramadi in 2005 and 2006. He was grievously wounded in an IED attack in 2006.

An ambush that hit his platoon during his second deployment to Ramadi, Iraq, left Moran with third-degree burns over 50 percent of his body, a comprehension fracture in his T-8 vertebrae, herniated discs, a mild traumatic injury and an inhalation injury. He endured 30 surgeries and more than two-and-a-half years of treatment at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Dan eventually returned to Texas to start and manage his own thriving business. Along the way, he got a phone call from a fellow Aggie currently living in Austin, and soon found himself taken in as a part of that man’s family. This week, Capt Moran traveled to Iowa to support his bid for the presidency.

CAPT MORAN: I’m here (in Iowa) to support Gov. Rick Perry. I’m here to tell my fellow countrymen and countrywomen that he is the person that we need in the Oval Office. He’s the person that we need as Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces. He’s the person that we need to get our economy working again. He truly is the proven conservative. All I had to do, all anyone has to do is look at his record. He has executive experience. He doesn’t need on the job training. He’s ready on day one.

A lot of people don’t realize just who he is as a person. The character of the man. His unique relationship with veterans, not only veterans but those that are actively serving in the military. He sees each one of those as his own son, his own daughter, his own brother, or sister. He truly truly…just loves them.
