Was A. Weiner sexting with a 17-year-old high school girl? (Update: Police visit the girl)

Patterico, who you should know if you don’t already is a prosecutor by trade, has been laying out the case in three posts – here, here and here. The first post is just a teaser, while the second lays out the evidence that the two girls who initially claimed to have have dirty tweeted with Weiner lied — after he rolled out the #hacked defense. That’s also when he was coaching Ginger Lee in how to lie, by the way. The last post is the most damning; it’s in the ballpark of being a closing summary in a courtroom. Patterico is great at teasing out the telling details, such as the “cape and tights” hero act that Weiner pulled with the Vegas blackjack dealer, and that also shows up in the girl’s twitter feed.

It’s all circumstantial because we don’t have Weiner’s side of the private conversations (that’s why he hired a private detective, remember, to maintain control of what they “find”) and the girls haven’t released their side of them either. But take a look at the third of Patterico’s post, and rewind the facts we know.

Weiner had a habit of sexting a variety of women all over the country, who had admired him on social networking. That admiration attracted Weiner’s interest, and then relationships were established. We know that Weiner took and sent the infamous lewd tweet to Gennette Nicole, and lied about it until the lie became absolutely unsustainable. He doesn’t tell the truth until circumstances force the truth out of him, and even then the truth he tells is incomplete. He is still lying about using official resources, for instance, because he seems to think that that lie is still sustainable. In fact, in my opinion the lie about official resources is the one strong line the House might have to sanction him, but even it’s not quite in the range of offenses that could get him expelled (hey, Rangel and Hastings still have their seats). Otherwise, his actual sexting offenses are ahead of House rules. If all the people on the other end of those conversations were adults, anyway.

Knowing all of this, and then looking at Patterico’s third post, it’s evident that Weiner still has a lot of explaining to do. It’s beyond obvious from one of the girls’ twitter profiles that she is still in high school. If there is even one sext between Weiner and her, it’s a very serious issue. But it’s just as evident that he’s done explaining and his wife is aidin’ and Abedin him in clinging onto power now. They’re not going to tell the truth until circumstances force it out of them.

The media needs to ask Weiner directly and repeatedly about these underage girls. We need to know whether the Congressman is a true predator.

Update: Prosecutor Patterico is apparently onto something.

Police on Friday afternoon came to the home of a 17-year-old high school junior to ask her about direct online communications she has had with Rep. Anthony Weiner.

Two officers from the New Castle County Police Department arrived at the girl’s home around 4:30 p.m. and asked to speak with the girl’s mother about the daughter’s contact with Weiner. Another officer appeared at the home a short time later. A FoxNews.com reporter was at the home when the police arrived.

The girl, whose name is being withheld because she is a minor, told FoxNews.com, “I’m doing OK.”

The police left the home after about 30 minutes, followed by the daughter and mother, who left in a separate car. It was not clear if the mother and daughter were going to continue the conversation with police at another location.

At his Monday press conference, we know that Weiner lied about at least two things: Whether he had used official resources, and as a commenter reminded me, whether he had coached any of the woman in to help cover up. He had, and he had. He also said that as far as he knew, all of the women were adults. We’ll see if that turns out to have been a lie as well.
