It looks like she is, which if that’s the case, any sympathy for her will dry up pretty quickly.
She even hunkered down with disgraced Rep. Anthony Weiner in a New York hotel Monday night — an incredible show of support just hours after a blubbering Weiner confessed to three years of sleazy online flings.
“She loves her husband very much. She is committed to her husband and her marriage,” the close friend said.
She’s adamant that her husband does not resign, and is optimistic that he can continue his career as an elected official.
“I think people have weathered worse,” said the source.
“They are still talking all the time about what to do [to survive the scandal],” the source said, adding that they plotted his political comeback while at the hotel.
This isn’t strength; it’s a kind of mania. I know I’m running the risk of sounding very harsh here, but this looks like a pair of addictions: His, to cheap thrills and risk, and hers, to the power she has been around for about 15 years (which is nearly half her life now). She married the future mayor of New York, and come hell or even more disgraceful pictures of him, she’s determined to remain married to the future mayor of New York. Not the man, necessarily, but the promise of the power that he, until recently, presented.
Maybe all that’s going too far. But still…within hours of his less than complete confession, she is playing political consultant behind the scenes trying to rehab the career he started throwing away just a month after they were married.
