Talking with Fox News yesterday, House Homeland Security Committee chairman Rep. Peter King (R-NY) confirmed elements of our exclusive reporting earlier this month here at PJM on the Department of Justice scuttling terror finance prosecutions against prominent Islamic leaders, including CAIR co-founder Omar Ahmad, for political reasons. According to our high-ranking DOJ source, the prosecutions were dropped to avoid embarrassing the Obama Administration, who have promoted some of the Islamic leaders and organizations who were to be prosecuted, and to prevent inflaming tensions in the Muslim community.
In his interview with Fox, King said that he had personally talked to federal prosecutors in the case who worked in the U.S. Attorney’s office in Dallas whose objections to the case being dropped were overruled by political appointees in the DOJ. King said that CAIR should have been indicted based on the information presented in the Holy Land Foundation trial about their complicity in the larger conspiracy to support Hamas.
As we reported here at the PJ Tatler last week, King sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder demanding answers why the DOJ dropped the terror finance prosecutions. He requested that the information be provided by today. But in his interview he indicated that he believed that Holder wouldn’t comply with the information request and that the House Homeland Security Committee might have to resort to subpoenas to obtain the information. King also indicated that other congressional committees, including the House Judiciary Committee, are looking into the matter. Eric Holder is scheduled to testify before the full House Judiciary Committee on May 3rd.
