When Do We Get to Attack Obama’s Character?
Barack Obama received at least some instruction in the Islamic faith of his father and went with him to the mosque, but the importance of this experience is vastly overstated by conservative commentators who seek to portray Obama as a Muslim of sorts. Radical anti-Americanism, rather than Islam, was the reigning faith in the Dunham household. In the Muslim world of the 1960s, nationalism rather than radical Islam was the ideology of choice among the enraged. Radical Islam did not emerge as a major political force until the nationalism of a Gamal Abdel Nasser or a Sukarno failed.
Barack Obama is a clever fellow who imbibed hatred of America with his mother’s milk, but worked his way up the elite ladder of education and career. He shares the resentment of Muslims against the encroachment of American culture, although not their religion. He has the empathetic skill set of an anthropologist who lives with his subjects, learns their language, and elicits their hopes and fears while remaining at emotional distance. That is, he is the political equivalent of a sociopath. The difference is that he is practicing not on a primitive tribe but on the population of the United States.
There is nothing mysterious about Obama’s methods. “A demagogue tries to sound as stupid as his audience so that they will think they are as clever as he is,” wrote Karl Krauss. Americans are the world’s biggest suckers, and laugh at this weakness in their popular culture. Listening to Obama speak, Sinclair Lewis’ cynical tent-revivalist Elmer Gantry comes to mind, or, even better, Tyrone Power’s portrayal of a carnival mentalist in the 1947 film noire Nightmare Alley. The latter is available for instant viewing at Netflix, and highly recommended as an antidote to having felt uplifted by an Obama speech.
America has the great misfortune to have encountered Obama at the peak of his powers at its worst moment of vulnerability in a generation. With malice aforethought, he has sought out their sore point.
Since the Ronald Reagan boom began in 1984, the year the American stock market doubled, Americans have enjoyed a quarter-century of rising wealth. Even the collapse of the Internet bubble in 2000 did not interrupt the upward trajectory of household assets, as the housing price boom eclipsed the effect of equity market weakness. America’s success made it a magnet for the world’s savings, and Americans came to believe that they were riding a boom that would last forever.
Americans regard upward mobility as a God-given right. America had a double founding, as David Hackett Fischer showed in his 1989 study, Albion’s Seed. Two kinds of immigrants founded America: religious dissidents seeking a new Promised Land, and economic opportunists looking to get rich quick. Both elements still are present, but the course of the past quarter-century has made wealth-creation the sine qua non of American life. Now for the first time in a generation Americans have become poorer, and many of them have become much poorer due to the collapse of home prices. Unlike the Reagan years, when cutting the top tax rate from a punitive 70% to a more tolerable 40% was sufficient to start an economic boom, no lever of economic policy is available to fix the problem. Americans have no choice but to work harder, retire later, save more and retrench.
I would only add to your list of ladies Hillary, Samantha, and Susan, his current national security advisers and the facilitators of the Libyan fiasco. And since anthropologists have run out of primitive cultures to study years ago, they’ve been doubling down on the American melting pot; they’re now basically street corner sociologists no longer even pretending to be value neutral as they extol the values and virtues of their preferred hyphenated American subculture.

The reason Obama won, and is currently popular, is women. And White guys. No one, and I mean NO ONE, likes White guys. At all. Certainly not White women. Who HATE HATE HATE Beta males, and equalism, and niceness, and sexual egalitarianism, and all the other stuff found in White guys.

And anything he does is excused like Teen girls drooling over Chris Brown. If you are an Alpha male (sexual dominance over women) you can get away with anything and everything with them. What you do does not matter — it is what you present.
White women don’t care about the corpses of non-Alpha White guys dragged around by Muslim Alphas. They just don’t. Never have. Never will. They care about the biggest anti-beta-Male-White guy on the Planet — Barack Obama. That’s harsh and ugly but human nature. It won’t change any ten thousand years soon.

The new and revised definition of a “philanderer” is a Republican that cheats on his wife and disgraces his family. A Democrat who behaves in exactly the same fashion is known as an interesting and exciting “stud” who demonstrates a “complex personality” and is one who will liberate us from our prudish hang-ups if elected to public office. Where did you get that info from? I heard of all sorts of things about Obama & much seem plausible. I never heard of any “extra-curricular” activities outside of his marriage. Could you elaborate? Not trying to put you on the defense but it would be interesing to know.

The “natural enemy” that Obama has fits in nicely with the rundown of Obama’s women: a woman from Alaska who saw very clearly what he was about, and she rose to hit him hard. The marginalization of her as an idiot, a hick, which involved the reflex that inevitably appeals to “elites,” insulting people with common sense, undercuts their haplessness now in the face of problems that consume us all. Y’all did it.
Yes, Sarah was right while Karl Rove, Barbara Bush, Mitt Romney, all his advisors, Peggy Noonan, George Will, Charles Krauthammer, and many others were wrong. Well, lets see: after 8 years of Rove’s guidance the Republicans lost the presidency big time and the Dems had big leads in both houses of Congress. During Bush’s presidency the immigration of unskilled immigrants (guess who they are voting for) increased considerably. I’ll question his competence.
So do I, just by the 2004 presidential election results against John Kerry: 2.5% popular vote margin and 286/251 Electoral College results. That election should not have been a squeaker.
Or his various admissions about how low a priority he made replying to the vicious attacks on Bush (granted, some of that seems to Bush’s style). The political malpractice in handling Katrina is mind boggling, especially given the immediate and wildly successful response by the National Guard and Coast Guard. Etc.

Not so many moons ago, I, then a junior in high school, following a perusal of my American history textbook, commented to my teacher that, in the version of the American Civic Religion that we were studying, slavery/racism seemed to play a role very similar to that of Original Sin in Christian theology. Not only was to the national conscience to be burdened with specific injustices and crimes but also the general failure to perfectly live up to the promise ( to hold it as self evident “that all men are created equal”) that defines our national mission. The difference, and the real tragedy, is that no one ever promised an ecumenical civic-messiah would come and wash away our sins with miraculous waters. This of course does not prevent various pretenders from trying to claim that post, as we have learned and will continue to learn to our detriment.

I would like to be able to say that this essay is prescient, but it is not. Mr. Goldman is an extremely astute observer of the evidence, and what has happened in the past is likely to happen again in the future, barring some direction changing events.
I have a couple of comments: I believe the essay is now a little dated by dint of Obama’s extraordinary obeisance to Islam in all its manifestations with the notable, but circumscribed exception of the drone attacks. In view of Obama’s behavior vis-a-vis Islam (and his correspondingly negligible embrace of any other religion), it is impossible to conclude that Obama is not a Muslim. Any denial on his part is simply “taqqiya.” In his notorious interview with George Stephanopoulos in ?2011 wherein he referred to his “Muslim faith,” he forgot to utilize “taqqiya.” Slips of the tongue are not innocent.
Secondly, I believe the jury is now far more out on the identity of Obama’s father. To my knowledge, there is no evidence of the marriage of Obama, Sr. and Stanley Ann Dunham. Obama, Sr. left Hawaii for Harvard where, evidently, he did not impress, and Immigration knew he had a family in Kenya. He attempted to utilize the “fact” of his putative family in Hawaii to wangle an extension of his visa, but, evidently, the immigration people knew what they were doing in those days and followed the law, and Obama, Sr. had to leave.
In my opinion, Obama’s father is almost certainly Frank Marshall Davis. Google the pictures of Davis and of Obama, Sr., and the conclusion is ineluctable. As an anthropologist myself, it is evident that Obama, Sr. has many characteristics of a native of Sub-saharan Africa. Very dark skin, flat nose. Davis, on the other hand, appears to be a mulatto, much like Obama. It would have been awkward for Davis to have had a child by Stanley Ann Dunham as he was a contemporary of Dunham’s parents, was a black nationalist/communist, and was already married. The “quid pro quo” for Obama, Sr. to be designated the father of BHO is that he would be given a card to play in his immigration efforts at no financial cost.

How long would it take to a) lose your electricity, gas, and water, b) lose your mortgaged residence, autos, etc. c) lose any other liquid assets, retirement accounts, etc. d) lose the ability to purchase food, gasoline, and other necessities.
Failure to be informed of what has actually occurred in history to economically failed states will not prevent reality from asserting itseslf. The only hint of personal satisfaction of being right about any of this is that if trucks can’t find gas to deliver food to my grocery store, neither will they be able to do so to celebrity grocery stores. George Clooney, Susan Sarandon, et al, go out to the central valley and hope some farmer will let you pick lettuce for food.
After you watch Mr. Mason’s video, send the URL to your young adults and other family members who, like all of us, haven’t find the country’s financial facts on CBS, ABC, NBC, or anywhere else.

What do you mean? I’ve been attacking it for years…not that there’s much to attack.
Mr. Goldman, you are on the correct path, and have found a very accurate description of Barrack Dunham. He can’t be legally Obama since they were never legally married.
(And why was Obama used as his birth name when his mother is “Stanley Ann Dunham”, and his father was absent? Could this be out of resentment of his mother for her family roots? She could have used the name “Kamehameha” since the father was never present, and he has the skin tone of a native Pacific Islander.)
Soetoro would be more legitimate if he were adopted by his step father. But, there is no documentation for that either.
Attacking Barracks character would unleash the thinly veiled anger he possesses and is evident under the veneer.

And your reference to his early years of “anthropologic” indoctrination is precisely on the mark. Hawaii was, and still is, a region of deep seated resentment toward the U.S. and its capitalist culture.
I have lived in Hawaii and had kids in elementary school there. “Haole’s” are hated, and it is exposed at the most unexpected times. Hawaiian culture is a fertile ground for the cultivation of a profound hatred of American culture.
BUT, Obama, himself, isn’t the most scary part; The mechanism that has enabled him to get where he is and facilitate his political philosophy is.
Removing Obama will not remedy the REAL problem we have with our government. There are many subversives acting openly that have to be confronted.
The Democrat Party is the vehicle for the sedition, and is being collaborated with by the media who have the behavior of the average parasite.
Obama is being used by the Democrat Party as a distraction to take the focus off of the most vile culprits operating in Congress.

Mr. Goldman, the above is, in my opinion, the most far seeing sentence you wrote in the essay. It is amazing to me how so many Americans have missed the implications of the lost opportunity with Russia. It wasn’t just the Bush administration either; Clinton was just as guilty and for both administrations Serbia was the real sticking point as far as the Russians are concerned. Those who know some history will understand why I say this.
U.s. and Russia could be the grain and crude superpowers of the world — Russia has just begun to exploit its fallow Siberian collective farms and the potential of climate change to thaw its north. Besides bulleon crude and food are what you can base a soft commodities backed currency standard on, and one that China would gladly go along with so they know their dollars won’t be turned to funny money.
But no. Romney’s advisors are stuck on Cold War stupid, so much that they can’t even notice the Russian army buying Israeli drones contradicting their grand no. 1 geopolitical adversary narrative, or that the type of people who just attacked our Embassies in Libya and Egypt are precisely the ones that Putin’s guns have thus far prevented from conquering Syria.
The narcissism of our Charismatic Leader is so absolute and perfect that has risen above reproach.

I must be one of the few people out there that actually thinks Obama will lose by A LOT on election day. I really don’t see anything that has changed since 2010. The American people are just as angry, the economy is just as bad, and the prospects of another four years of Obama are just as dark as they’ve ever been. So why would the American people all of a sudden decide that Obama wasn’t that bad and should get another four years? There is no reason on earth why the Republicans can’t do as well as they did in 2010, when Obama wasn’t even on the ticket. In November Obama WILL BE on the ticket, so Republicans and Conservatives will be even more motivated to get out and vote to teach the liberals a lesson they will never forget. So I think Obama will lose and lose badly, if 2010 was any indication of how angry this nation really is.

But then the next issue becomes a question of whether or not there is sufficient anger to translate into the painful determination to correct the damage done. As pointed out by a commenter above we are rocketing toward trillion dollar annual deficits that will soon send us over the fiscal cliff. The tax policies and spending cuts necessary to stop this catastrophe will not be painless and certainly not beyond scorn by the media and Democrats. Does the American public possess the foresight, intelligence, and fortitude to endure what is necessary to prevent disaster and do we have the leadership in the feckless Republican party establishment to bring it all off? I have limited faith in the former and none in the latter. Even with a defeated Obama we may still lose our beloved America. We simply may not be up to the job. Pray that such is not the case.

I hate that we can’t trust Mitt to get aggressive with Obama over policy. By blabbering on with generalizations about improving the economy (at the expense of everything else), Romney’s inability to get nasty reminds me of McCain. What pisses me off is that Romney had no problem hitting Santorum and Newt with the hammer. It is time for Mitt to get tough and go for it. Enough is enough. Karl Rove and large swaths of the Beltway GOP are to be ignored.

If my comment above was somehow not clear, I’m not objecting to a dissection of Obama’s ideology (Barry Rubin has described it recently in PJM as “New New Leftist”). My objection is to silly and conspiracy theory-type re-hashing of “National Enquirer” stuff such as birth certificate, parentage, Muslim affiliation, etc., or even worse, that the fate of Western Civ somehow hangs on white women being attracted to black men instead of white slubs. It’s a free country so folks can vent as much as they please, but I’d rather they didn’t do it all over Spengler’s comment section.

I remember being blown away by this article. It has stood the test of time. Just the other day, I referenced this prescient article in an effort to explain Obama’s hatred of the United States.
You were uniquely able to articulate how so many of us felt. And I think this is because of your background: Well-versed in the Bible and a student of History and Global Economics. You reference the 1955 Bandung Conference in your article and I assume your thinking on the Bandung Generation was influenced by Paul Johnson’s ‘Modern Times.’ In my understanding of your writing and of Johnson’s, Obama in some respects represents the thinking of the Bandung Generation. Bandung’s leaders believed that they should be worshiped in place of G-d and Bandung’s cardinal philosophy seemed to be that the rightness or wrongness of one’s actions was dependent on which race or group one belongs to, not based on one’s actions. Needless to say, this philosophy is in direct contrast to America’s Judeo-Christian founding ethic of personal responsibility and belief in a loving Creator.

A few years pre-Obama, there was kind of a wave of talk about “reparations” for slavery. Then it stopped, because Obama came along and he personifies that idea. He IS the reparations, and he has exacted a terrible price (ironically, paid largely by blacks). Hopefully we can retire him soon and move on. The damage will take a huge effort to repair though. Will Mitt and the Reps be up to it? Highly doubtful, but the only hope we have at this point.

This is the best written piece I have seen on someone other then a trained therapist or psycho-therapist to share the possibility of what this man is. I have done my fair share of therapy and 12 step recovery work to tackle my own issues in life and harms I have done others. Much of my behavior and distorted thinking definitely came from my up bringing. Without falling into my own resentment of Obama I’m trying to stay in a place of compassion that he is a wounded soul, he is a sick man. The problem is I’m not causing harm to an entire world and country, I have admitted my powerlessness of my issue. Obama is still in denial he has yet to bottom out on whatever his demons are that haunt him. The author makes a good point about obamas religion. Unlike what some right wing zealotes think, it is not Islam, but another quasi religion that is far more destructive. Here is the mistake I made just like the Mormons. I believed Israel had the “City of David” but this is wrong and Israel today represents the 10 tribes and we know the old story of what happened to the 10 tribes then lost until our modern time
