If only Mr. Rosenbaum had brought up the Gestapo or the Holocaust, my Trifecta ticket would have paid off big. Sorry, but I’m not going to let up on this. It’s become the Big Lie of our time, subscribed to by those who want to make a moral equivalence arguent about Israel and Hamas. The Big Lie is that Hamas is some kind of Palestinian rights organaization, just a little more extreme and religiously based, when in fact it is an exterminationist anti-semitic death cult with its roots in Nazi ideology. Ron is right on target as usual. The other part of the tragedy is that the Arabs and Muslims who form mobs howling for exterminationist anti-Semitism have been, are and will continue to suffer the consequences of supporting a murderous and delusional belief system, just as the Germans did during World War II. The only difference is that even defeat and destruction doesn’t seem to change the mind of the Arab Muslim anti-Semite, unlike the Nazi German anti-Semite. Recall the hysterical mobs who demanded Nasser stay in power in Egypt after the disaster of the Six-Day War.
The sane Arabs and Muslims who really want peace and are willing to accept Israel into the family of nations are as thin on the ground and as powerless and mortally threatened as the White Rose of Hans and Sophie Scholl in Nazi Germany in 1943. (Why doesn’t someone make a movie about them, I wonder, instead of a bunch of Wehrmacht officers who only decided to try to remove Hitler once it was clear the war was lost?)
I cry and tremble for the future, not just of Israel, but of the world.

Ron, you are pretty much preaching to the choir here. why don’t you right this stuff on Slate or Kos. Your side of the aisle are the ones who would rather equate Bush to Hitler than Hamas to the Nazi Party.

Thinking of a need for ‘hope and change,’ these discussions could sure use it. In no particular order is side 1, viz. Megan McArdle: A liberation movement doesn’t care how many of the enemy they kill, SOP you get it! Side 2 is (usually unspoken but it drives the argument): Are you schmucks going to give directions to the Holocaust to that guy in the turban like you did to that effing guy with the funny mustache?

Each side has its own history. Where you go depends on your ‘facts.’ There are ‘not so secret parts of history;’ and, someday, somebody is going to use them to drive around the Maginot Line of side 1 or 2 to which the response is going to be WTF?

My ‘not so secret parts of history?’ Re: ‘occupation,’ ‘Israel’ may have occupied Russia. This issue was raised in Radosh’s recent Pajamas Media post on ‘the re-emergence of the Stalin cult.’ Certainly at one point, with Trotsky in control, the Red Army looked like a Jewish Army. The rise of Nazism owed something to people having enough of the threat to traditional European values represented by the communist party, perhaps an earlier ‘liberal Jewishness.’ Stalin headed a Jewish identified force and could have been a brake on Hitler, but he betrayed his commitment.

The opposition to the Jew by the Arab in the Middle East owes something to the British policy of ‘divide and rule’ in appointing an antisemitic Mufti in their protectorate of Palestine. It also owes something to the Muslims ‘having enough of’ the Jews not accepting their dhimmi status.

I dont quite get it . What better choice do the oppressed Palestinians have, to better their lives , than to trust the Hamas? Is it fair that the civilians pay for the fanaticism of the Hamas? True that the Hamas rose to power by gaining its popularity from the civilians themselves, but did the civilians have much of a choice? They probably chose the lesser evil. Is the war that is taking place now, moral? If not, then what solution does Israel have against the Hamas? But However , arent Israelies themselves the root cause of what is happening this day between them and the Palestinians?

The last chance for Europe’s future died in the mud of France between 1914-1918. WW2 was the last messy act of the original disaster. France and England had it within their power to destroy Hitler as late as the Remiltarization of the Rhineland but they blinked.

These same hollow souls haunt Europe today; temporising, talking and ultimately doing nothing while the danger grows palpably worse. Evil comes in many forms and I cannot decide which is worse; Hamas who proudly proclaim their perversions, or the the PC crowd that refuse to listen.

It’s the 1930s all over again, and there are plenty of Chamberlains and Goebbels-like propagandists everywhere.

I know a few men who were in North Africa in WWII. To a man they will swear that both Baathists and Wahabis were bosom buddies with
Nazis. (Although not with the generality of the Afrika Corps or the Luftwaffe.)

The forerunners of Hamas used to use their own women and children to do dig up hastily buried munitions and the frightful casualties be damned. This was so the men could loot
from the Americans and other allies.

The common thread between Nazis and terrorists
is a thuggish fascination with various aspects of the occult. ‘Nuff said.
