I think my first cringe moment came when, in the middle of his speech on military action, he managed to blurt out “worst economic crisis since the great depression.” Wh-huh?!
Later I noticed just how often he inserted himself, rather awkwardly, into the speech. Listen for the number of times he says “I” . . . it gets kind of spooky after awhile.
And the subtext of the whole thing was “This is George Bush’s fault” anyway. As I mentioned above, I can’t ever remember a president stating “I voted against this war” as part of an effort to rally the troops.
