Sorry I don’t understand your comment. I was very interested in the war in Gaza. I believe that Israel had a right to protect itself from attack. I also believe that Israel has no need to respect a Hamas government even if it was democratically elected since it is still committed to the destruction of Israel.

Hi Hanoi,

Sorry I don't understand your comment. I was very interested in the war in Gaza. I believe that Israel had a right to protect itself from attack. I also believe that Israel has no need to respect a Hamas government even if it was democratically elected since it is still committed to the destruction of Israel.

However, I know that I am not in a position to fully assess the details of the war.

So in my comment I was allowing that someone else could have a legitimate difference of opinion about it and not be an enemy of Israel. (Even if they were making an error)

You sound like a sweet guy, Gibson...

Let me paraphrase Trotsky: you may be uninterested in "the war in Gaza" but the war in Gaza is interested in you.

Ron,

I read you regularly with interest. But that doesn't mean I don't question things you say.

1. What's wrong with a settlement freeze? Do you think absorbing the West Bank is going to help Israel?

A settlement freeze is not the same as withdrawing before the other side commits to peace.

2. Why should the Arabs recognize Israel as a Jewish state? Isn't recognition of Israel as a state enough?

It's internal character is internal business. This seems like a ploy to avoid peace to me.

3. You imply that Mary Robinson is anti-semitic herself rather than an inept opponent of anti-semitism. You don't come right out and say it but your statement is not clear.

4. Being against settlements and against the war in Gaza does not, in itself, make one anti-Israel.

Regards

The J Street crowd is something of a minor nuisance----compared to the destruction caused by Alan Dershowitz. I suspect that the Israeli political establishment normally ignores them. The Harvard Law professor, however, represents an entirely different kettle of fish. He naively misleads the Israelis regarding the intentions of the Obama administration. Dershowitz continues to make one silly excuse after another in defense of the current occupant of the White House. One should indeed not spend too much criticizing J-Street's back stabbers. The well-meaning Dershowitz is far more dangerous.
