Ron,

I'm not sure how over-the-top Warren's piece from the Ottawa Citizen is. For those of us for whom the historical bases for this big discussion are fundamental, it is a very common reaction. How much can we fudge the truth for a wee bit of accomodation before we are no longer even dealing with reality? The little concessions add up after a while. Medieval Christendom also contributed quite a lot as anyone who has benefited directly or indirectly (i.e. all of us) from university education should remember. Aquinas used Averroes, what Arab Islamic medieval thinkers used Aquinas...Scotus...Ockham? Any? Tolerance was not one-sided either as we see from both medieval Spain as well as (of all places) medieval Rome. The facts matter in this discussion.

OFF-TOPIC: have you thought about (or have you already?) revisiting the Spanish CIvil War in light of the way Pio Moa is shaking things up in this debate? Moa cites you as an important source.

"Obama’s blindness to this is bad; his call for religious tolerance on the other hand, if taken seriously, would undermine the entire Arab case."

Why did Barack Obama fail to criticize the University of Cairo's religious intolerance? This academic institution apparently does not allow non-Muslims to attend. Obama's "blindness" reminds me of the appeasement policies of Stanley Baldwin and Neville Chamberlain. He may have good intentions, but so what? That's just not good enough. Please note that the president supported a woman's right to wear the burkka---but said nothing concerning her right NOT to wear one. He employed the "blame America" card. We also should not underestimate the importance of Obama's shocking historical illiteracy. It is overwhelming evidence that he receives advice from some very peculiar people. Lastly, neither David Horowitz nor Ron Radosh seem to comprehend Obama's intense hostility towards white people. At a gut level, he despises "white" Western Civilization. It has allegedly crapped on the dark skin victims of the world. Any man who throws his own white grandmother under the bus has some disturbing "issues" to resolve.
