As long as the settlements remain peace is impossible.

Bibi doesn't want to remove them so the US has to insist on it.

There is no reason to believe that the Obama team will not insist that the Palestinians undertake their own obligations before any peace treaty is signed.

If they assume, as you do, that Obama is going to give them a free hand to do whatever they want, they are surely wrong.

PS: I like your blog and read it regularly.

The alliance with Israel, and nasty little viper-state, is a strategic and moral disaster. Time to stop propping up Israel and make a serious rapprochement with Iran.

"For those who hoped that President Barack Obama..."

I was not among these deluded folks. One did not need to be a great genius to pay attention to the fact that Barack Obama for roughly twenty years sat in a pew listening to a racist and anti-Semitic preacher. He also drove the bus over his own white grandmother. "Barry" Obama obviously has issues with white people. The Israelis are predominantly white---and therefore must be victimizing those dark skinned Palestinians.

"Finally, as Marty Peretz has wisely written, “the two-state solution is a non issue.”

I hate to be some sort of cynical scum bag, but when will Marty Peretz cease cutting Obama so much slack? He seems to be something of a guilt tripped white dude.
Spending so many years associated with the Harvard elite apparently does this to a number of people. The two-state solution may be a non-issue to Peretz, but that's not the way the president sees it. The top guy at TNR is unwittingly doing a lot of damage. Whether he likes it or not. Peretz is a sort of weathervane for the Obama's administration officials. I can easily imagine them saying: " We've got nothing to worry about. Marty is still aboard and thus the Jewish vote is secure. Full steam ahead." Lastly, I am concerned that Michael Oren might be listening too closely to Peretz.
