"The far right does possess a monopoly on this sort of rhetoric."

Whoops, it should read: The far right---and extreme leftists do not possess a monopoly on this sort of rhetoric.

One should also beware of the "moderates." They are too often intellectually lazy and willing to propose so-called well meaning responses that will only make matters worse.

“Saving Israel from Itself.”

This is also the same theme of the Obama administration and its "moderate" Republican allies. The far right does possess a monopoly on this sort of rhetoric. Israelis should be wary of those who get mushy and sentimental over the allegedly new beginnings of a Israel and Palestinian understanding. The past is to be ignored and everybody should instead be focussed on the creation of a new world. Palestinian radicals only require a bit of loving dialogue. Supposedly disgusting reactionaries like Bibi Netanyahu are standing in the way of peace. The Israelis must be saved from their own chosen leaders in spite of themselves. John J. Mearsheimer, alas, merely says bluntly what is already the consensus tacit view of American "elites" like Barack Obama.
