Nomenclature is not a problem when you understand that as far as it concerns Israel, "disproportionate" is a synonym for "effective."

People like Roiphe use Israel as their moral summmer camp. As long as it doesn't interfere with their progressive bona fides, they're all for it.

Alternatives? First, stop calling the Middle East tragedy a "problem".

Problems are abstract questions so contrived as to afford a solution, to be arrived at by proper use of logic, regardless of reality. The Middle East is not an abstraction, it is the place where the rest of the world sends manufactured compassion (and piles of money) to the thugs of "Palestine" (another abstraction) and indignant reproach to Israel, which is the only authentic accomplishment in the wretched Middle East.

If there was a "solution", it would not be the triumph of logic, but a voluntary escape from absurdity, originating in the awakened conscience of the palestinians, after they were allowed to confront the consequences of their actions. You don't build a future by scarificing children.

The Bush administration took the first step by refusing to have anything to do with Arafat. It's a not a matter of intellectual brilliance, it's a matter of courage. Where are we going to find it?

So Martin Peretz thinks Avigdor Lieberman is a thug. Is this the same Martin Peretz who wrote (regarding Chas Freeman) "I can’t believe that Obama wants to appoint someone who is quintessentially an insult to the patriotism of some many of his supporters, me included."
Mr. Peretz, some of us have no trouble believing it; we've been paying attention to who's who in the Obama camp. And some of us aren't as bothered by Lieberman as you are.
Livni is, of course hoping that the Likud/Yisrael Beitenu coalition fails. It's a matter of her most deeply held belief: She thinks she's the political reincarnation of Golda Meir and deserves to be Prime Minister. By any means necessary

"Yet, Israel’s governing problems is causing a..."

The world has long realized that it doesn't need to take Jews seriously. They continue rewarding their enemies---and friends who advocate well meaning but destructive policies. Barack Obama attended an anti-Semitic church for twenty years and still received 80% of the total Jewish vote. The blunt talking Charles Freeman was recently selected for a major appointment by the current administration. And yet, few are willing to directly blame Obama. Articles are written without even once mentioning his name. A popular former American president is Bill Clinton. Huh? What sense does this make? Clinton’s naïve policies resulted in countless Jewish deaths. Too many Jews seem to have been conned into believing they are disgusting white folks crapping on the dark skinned Palestinians. There is little hope if that is indeed the case.
