Dave….["That’s probably because there was practicaly no increase in the debt when Bush was president..."]
Bush was not the dummy so many believed. Bush knew a storm of T-5 was on the horizon. He just didn’t know when or exactly how bad the consequences may be. He found out parts of the answers before he left office.
It really makes NO difference in what political party followed Bush into office! Debt…massive debt, would have been piled up just as it is today regardless of the political party. TARP I, TARP II and on down the line.
Just like a fire, when the economy is in dire crisis….you have two choice. Let it burn down or throw the water/money to it.
Short-sighted folks were screaming let the financial structure burn down giving no recognition that our economy is part and parcel of a global economy and the USD is the world currency. Smarter and wiser people knew that the global structure could not be allowed to catch on fire and burn down also. Of the two choices it was not to difficult to determine which course of action was necessary. But of course, we now know that ‘most’ of the global financial structure did catch on fire. Now everybody is trying to figure out how to put out the continuing smolder and rebuild.
The fire started on one shift and has been fought by a relieving shift. Now. everybody is consumed with ‘politics’ and nobody wants to work together to clean the mess up and do what is adult and responsible for the nation.
It will remain this way at least through 2012 and most likely continue on beyond for some time.
