Charlie(Colorado) ó The Barrett .50 fires the same .50 BMG round as the .50 cal. machine gun. That round will penetrate the armor of most light armored vehicles produced through the ’80′s (which was most of the Soviet/Chinese/NK/French armor the Iraqis ran). Most AFV’s produced since then are hardened to resist at least 12.7mm/.50 cal. fire. 2000 yards is pretty much the max effective range for the round, but depending on the target vehicle, the story is entirely possible, especially if you luck out with a “golden BB” hit on open hatches, stored ammo or take out the engine block.
And frankly, Communist armor, it turns out, sucks. There were documented cases from 1991 of Bradleys taking out T-62 tanks with their 25mm gun, which no one thought was possible, and I’ve heard anecdotal accounts of North Korean T-54/55′ s that were penetrated by .50 cal fire.
