IMHO, the refusal of some on the Left is part and parcel of the narcicism of the 68ers. They contend that they are engaged in the noble enterprise of trying to create a better world, but note how they phrase their “idealism” in terms of their own actions. Fundamentally, they are only interested in the outside world insofar as it affects them. Thus, we shouldn’t be fighting this war because it diverts resources from healthcare, education, social security, etc. The attitude seems to be that as long as the Islamofascists only launch a few attacks, we can ignore them and concern ourselves with other matters.
