I’m not an American either. (But my great grandmother was: her dad was severely wounded in the Civil War; she saw Lincoln’s funeral train.)

As far as I’m concerned, the USA is a beacon on the hill. I’m with Dylan Thomas (“Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night”):

“Rage, rage against the dying of the light”!
