The irony of the Dem’s approach is that they’re attacking the wrong part of Allawi’s speech. It’s not the statements about current violence that matter, it’s Allawi’s conveying the message that Iraqis want freedom, are glad to have help, and are determined to make things work. Not all Americans believe that – my wife, for example, is prone to saying things like “they don’t want us there anyway”. Impressing freedom on the unwilling is depressing – helping willing people win it is far more satisfying.

Watch for a bump in the “the war is worth it” numbers.
