Why the Democratic Party Clings to Racism

“In effect, the Democratic Party has inadvertently turned itself into the party of racism…”

Is it inadvertent?

In the heat of the slavery debate just prior to the civil war, a standard argument of the pro-slavery plantation owners (Democrats all) was “the black man isn’t capable of getting along without someone to put a roof over his head and food on his table.” The same thing the party is saying today, except now instead of exploiting blacks for plantation labor, they are exploiting them for votes.

The Republicans are also saying pretty much the same thing they said when the party was formed by Abe Lincoln and his contemporaries, largely to end slavery: “Everyone must be equal before the law.”

This puts them in agreement with Republican Martin Luther King and others.
