CBS Better REALLY Come Clean…

I read a theory once that one of the things that hastened the collapse of the Soviet Union was Chernoble. Not the accident itself so much as the fact that the government and their media kept reporting it as a “minor accident” long after everyone in Russia knew the truth. It was so blatant that people were forced to accept what they’d already long suspected–that the institutions of the country itself were corrupt.

I had a conversation with a very liberal friend last night. This is her view: the documents are not forgeries, they are “reproductions” of memos that “everyone knows” existed at one time, but that “somebody” long ago shredded to protect Bush. Since the country “needs to know” about these memos it was “alright” to use the “reproductions” because they support the “substance” of the “charges” which is Bush was AWOL, disobeyed direct order, fortunate son, blah, blah, blah.

What’s scary is from what I have observed from the woman over the years, she is very much a truthful and honest person in her own life. Her BDS has sent her morality off the rails are far as this is concerned, I guess. Maybe it’s as simple as that with CBS. They knew going in the memos were forged, but the “greater truth” as they see it made it acceptable to use them because the country “needs to know” that “Bush lied.”
