Am starting to hear from multiple sources a sense of what’s going on in CBS. There’s some disagreement over what exactly today’s statement is going to be, but the one sense of agreement is that this isn’t a retraction.

The Bush critics are e-mailing CBS, saying “good job, what courage” on this story. According to multiple postersat the liberal chat site DemocraticUnderground.com, the network’s response to the positive emails is:

Dear [e-mailer],

Thank you for taking the time to write. Your support is appreciated. As you can imagine, we’ve been inundated with negative emails. It’s refreshing to hear from a viewer such as yourself. We strive for the highest level of journalistic integrity and will continue to do so, no matter what the cost. A free society demands free, unmuzzled media expression.

Also, for what it is worth, the blogger Allah says his source in CBS says today’s announcement will be, essentially, “we still stand by our story.”
