I think I get the mindset now. It goes something like this: There is no absolute truth, just different perspectives. We all know that Bush played fast and loose with his Guard service. Everyone knows it. We all know that if Bush is reelected, it will be the triumph of evil. So we are justified in doing whatever we need to do in the service of these larger truths. If we create, or present “created” documents (note the absence of the word “forged”) we are only presenting the truth with the aid of a visual. As long as the documents we create fit the truth as we know it to be, there is no moral violation.
