Wichita,

BTW, Iíve read many of your posts and agree with them and am impressed with the thinking behind them. (howís that for softening you up)

Iíd love to get into a full blown discussion of human motivation ( I did major in Psychology for 3 yrs)but Iím tired. I didnít mean to come off as some sort of strict behaviorist/rationalist. I was simply trying to illustrate a point and was speaking more from a ìforensicî standpoint. Maybe I should have used the term, motivation. In any murder trial the prosecutor has to show the motivation of the alleged murderer. Why did he commit the murder? There has to be a reason that makes sense to the jury for committing such an extreme act. And while the bosses at CBS could be partisan Democrats, they have a completely different fiduciary duty & responsibility than Rather and should have a completely different outlook in this situation. Their ego and political agenda shouldnít be at the forefront.

That ratings would go up if they were nailed in a clear breach of journalistic integrity, not to mention competency, after sticking to an untenable position to the last doesnít strike me as likely.

You know, Iím not trying to argue for this position at all costs. I was really wondering why CBS as a whole was sticking with an obviously losing position. It worries me. I used to play a lot of poker and when I saw somebody with what seemed like a losing hand keep on throwing money in the pot I had to consider what their game was because people donít normally just throw money away. They could be bluffing of course. But it just seems like such a crappy hand to bluff with.
