There are way too many commenters who don’t know what corporate raiders do. If they buy into an existing company in order to rectify some temporary imbalance in that companies strategic profile, and charge fair rates, they do all a great service. Likewise if they help a dying concern into the grave gently, rather than violently, saving as much of the existing wealth as possible. These are justified functions, morally, ethically, and economically.
It would seem that, if we really want to wind down a top-heavy, bloated, wasteful government, in the least painful way, one could hardly get a man with a better resume than Mittens.
When we consider Gordon Gecko raiding, we should instead look at Bob Rubin, for example. In order for him to get paid a billion dollars for a FEE to manage a takeover (which eventually went bust)he had to mortgage the company in question, which would have gone along quite nicely without his “help”, to the hilt and beyond, to the point that it was only no longer feasible because the loan was so huge! I know many fine businesses which suffered this fate, especially during the 80s. Clinton was right about the “decade of greed”. After all, his cabinet was full of some of the greatest practitioners, ever. John Dillinger would’ve been proud!
Let’s start thinking like adults, for a change. We really need what Romney’s got. We know he CAN do it. We must make sure he DOES do it.
O’Bumbles can’t do anything but shoot his fat mouth and kill my country. There’s no hope for us with that idiot and his “experts” in charge.
If it comes down to Romney and Gingrich, let’s keep in mind that the job opening isn’t for snide debating skills nor the sheer quantity of ideas, good or bad, executed or not. We need a manager. Some people can make decisions, some just bloviate. Can you tell which is which? I ain’t exactly in love with Mitt, either, but perhaps his talents perfectly match the times.
