I imagine that Perry is a better person than you give him credit for – at least a little. I was able to resist the urge to have have a favourite candidate. Like Sarah Palin said, no matter which Republican wins, they all are going to do roughly the same things once in office.

But back to Perry. Once caught up in it all, candidates have a tendency to “do anything to win”. They do it for themselves, they do it because their advisers tell them to, they do it because they feel obligated to win for their donors. Perry may be despicable, but the system brings out the worst in people. Maybe that is as it always ways, didn’t old time politicians used to accuse each other of being dogs and monkeys?

Its a useful lesson for you Roger. People do the wrong thing when the pressure is on – or in Cain’s case, because no-one is watching. We never know until the campaign, then you place your bets. Don’t kick yourself because you can’t predict the roulette wheel in advance.
