Mr. Simon. We love you very much and your heart and your mind are exactly in the tight places. But not your memory, and I have some doubts about your political, uh, instincts.

First, for the easier of the speculations – doubts and speculations about the accusations themselves. This one is easy – I give you Bill Clinton. Period, full stop, end argument.

But now for the more difficult speculations – why has Cain handled things as he has, why hasn’t he handled them as forthrightly as some of us would like, up to and including, now, why did he run in the first place?

These doubts are in effect trashing a Conservative hopeful. Are you sure Mr. Simon that a candidate MUST handle themselves as you indicate? Aren’t I right that Justice Thomas also refused to directly refute his accusers but did vigorously deny, and only deny, the vile accusations?

And wasn’t that rightly OK with us? And if we are principled should we say that well it was OK in the Justice Thomas case because it did not derail him? More, if it had derailed him would we want to publicly speculate that maybe Anita Hill was right? Why didn’t Thomas defend himself directly, why didn’t he prove or give strong proofs that his accusers were, as he himself said, lying?

As to your question if a husband has hidden things from his wife, how can we expect etc? The answer is – his career.

Mr. Simon, why are Movement Conservatives attacking small “c” conservatives? And while we are at it, when did we lose our minds? Cain is being held to standards no candidate would be held to including Justice Thomas. Why were these standards OK for Justice Thomas and not Cain?

And don;t give me this claptrap, well Cain was running for President.
