The Mystery of Herman Cain

This pretty much covers it. Herman Cain’s appeal is “mysterious” only to someone who thinks Romney an appealing or even adequate candidate. Indeed, there was very little not to like about Cain’s stances. Even his foreign-policy ignorance was forgivable: a clever man can quickly get up to speed where needed, and have a look at Foggy Bottom to see what being “informed” can be worth.

To all appearances, though, we’re stuck now. Cain’s revealed himself to be a non-starter: add to his erratic temperament either
a) cretinously poor judgment, or
b) inability to control the misadventures of “little Herman” (take your pick).

Newt has a camera on him now, which all his ex-constituents know to signal an oncoming implosion. For better or worse, Romney’s just won the primary. Damn it all.
