JOE’S DAY FOUR:
Kudos to Joe for visiting Nitzan, the settlement where former Gush Katif Israeli’s live after being expelled from Gaza three yrs ago. None of the lazy reporters of the MSM trekked out to Nitzan even though those people are a central part of the conflict’s story( given that the former Gush Katif residents served as a buffer for Israel as facts on the ground, preventing missiles from being lobed into Southern Israel) As soon as they were evicted from their homes, Hamas moved in, destroyed the Synagogues, green houses & turned the land into rocket launching pads. Interesting to see in Joe’s piece what was written on the sewer pipes used to take cover from the rockets (incidentally, the pipes provide protection from the spraying metal shrapnel in the terror rocket’s payload & not from a direct hit.) In child’s writing it says, “We told you so–you can take us out of Gaza, but Gaza will follow you… from orange to red alert” (orange, the color adopted by those against the Gush katif expulsion & Gaza disengagement & red for the red alert of the sirens in Southern Israel.)
I would’ve liked to hear more impressions directly from the mouths of the people Joe was interviewing, instead of Joe describing what he heard from them. Clearly, a first hand account from the former residents of Gush Katif, hearing their voices, would have been powerful & informative. Still, we are getting more reporting about the war from the Israeli side than we get from any of the other “reporters” who just rely on doctored news feed from Hamas Media Inc. Keep-up the good work Joe.
As a Columbia Journalism School graduate & news publisher, I can say w/ some authority that J School is overrated & there is no substitute for boots on the ground, hard work, curiosity & common sense…Joe displayed all of the above plus a healthy disdain for what he calls “dense & agenda driven” reporting. The MSM reporters are frankly complicit in emboldening the terrorists w/ their bias for even-handedness over truth.
