Agreed. I have given friends and family and charities money, without my husband’s knowledge, just as he has. Big deal – we maintain separate checking accounts for our personal expenses, and a joint one for common expenses. Big ticket items from any account, we discuss. But what might seem like a major amount to Roger may in fact be a trivial amount to Cain ($1000 for someone’s rent is a blip when you are worth millions).
I’m also not as impressed as Roger is by the fact that his attorney told him not to disclose the amount, FWIW. Hell yeah you don’t, until you’ve gotten it all documented by your accounting team on a minute by minute basis, and ideally cross-referenced it against a copy of her tax records as well, because with an Obama-run IRS, think of the leverage Obama would have over Cain if Cain gave her or other individuals over 13K in a single year and mistakenly didn’t report it on his gift tax schedule attached to his taxes. Or if she didn’t report it as income, the IRS would start an investigation into whether he conspired with her to “defraud” the IRS. Cain would get Gibson guitared in a big way…and the hostile media would have a field day.
