The Mystery of Herman Cain

Full Disclosure: I support Michele Bachmann. Someday Mr. Simon will write an article telling us who he’s supporting while writing about another candidate, but I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting.

There is zero mystery about why Herman Cain is/was running for President. He had no ambition of actually winning when he started out. He was running for money. He was selling his book (he sold 100,000 copies to his campaign) and his “campaign stops” were often in states that didn’t have early primaries but did have large potential book-buying populations.

Then Herman started believing his press. He was far more entertaining than the other candidates which gained him a lot of support. His 9-9-9 plan was simple and simple people took to it. Herman started to believe he could take the nomination which would have led to a lot more money win or lose.

Unless Mr. Cain is even stupider than I think he is, he should have thought to himself (giving him every benefit of the doubt) “O.K., is there anything in my past that would come back to haunt me. Lets see, would having a 13 year relationship with a woman that my wife doesn’t know about where I have given her money and made 4:00 a.m. phone calls be misinterpreted?”

Don’t cry for Herman. He has sold books, his speaker fees will go up after all of this is over and he’s likely to get a contract with Fox so he’ll be just fine.

See Roger, it’s really not too hard to figure out.
