Charlie, I too have a Ph’D in mathematics, and an undergraduate degree in physics. It is not pertenent to the argument. The word is *not* the same, because for John it includes the man woman thing. To John they are not the same concept. If you disregard every point on which John differs, then you may have satisfied yourself, but you haven’t won the argument. Besides, a dictionary containing only the word “the” would be somewhat boring.
