Dear MARGIE (et al)

Why on earth do you want to hear news as important and nuanced as the Middle East conflict explained by a guy “you can relate to”…?

Is that how far the US has sunk as a society, that our news has to be placed through the filter of unfettered ignorance – and partisan bias (of which ever stripe) – just so it can be digested by “normal” people?

When I have an operation, I want someone with ten years training and ten years experience. I want someone WHO KNOWS WHAT HE’S DOING to undertake the task. I don’t care whether he’s “just like me” or whether he “gives his opinion as he sees it”. I want him to BE UNBELIEVABLY QUALIFIED.

The same should apply to journalists covering a conflict of infinite complexity – and with genuine global significance.

If the only view of this tragic situation you can tolerate is from a numbskull with a monkey wrench, it’s obvious you’re not interested in being informed – but merely to have your existing prejudices reinforced.

Pathetic.
