Benghazi Continued: Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion

May 6th, 2013 - 12:30 am

Yes, there is a lot to unravel here.  We have probably only just begun.

Most recently, we have learned via John Rosenthal, writing in Newsmax, that the State Department hired the February 17th Martyrs Brigade to do their security in Libya, a group that celebrates al Qaeda on their Facebook page. (Yes, you read that correctly.) If true, this is like having the Gestapo act as security for the Nuremburg Trials.

Not surprisingly, they quit only days before Ambassador Stephens was killed.

State clearly understands their reputation has been damaged, although I am not sure they realize how severely.  Their Accountability Review Board and its chair and vice chair (Ambassador Tom Pickering and Admiral Michael Mullen) have now relegated themselves to the dustbin of history.  Unbelievably, they never interviewed Hillary Clinton, the woman in charge.  Rumor has it Pickering was terrified. (If you want black comic laughs, you read can still read their final report of December 12, 2012 online here. I guess they haven’t mustered up the nerve to take it off yet.  They better watch out for the Way Back Machine.)

Now an inspector general will examine the ARB.  But who will examine the inspector general? And then where will it lead?

This entire scandal reminds me of the great Italian movie Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion.  Directed by Elio Petri, it won the Best Foreign Film Oscar in 1971. In the case of the film the citizen in question was the chief of detectives who ended up being found guilty of murdering his mistress.  I wonder who it will be in Benghazi: The Motion Picture.

To be continued…

Jacksonian Democrats have become Stonewall Jacksonian Democrats.

Our State Department is now headed by whom? And was previously headed by whom?

Radical leftism has wormed its way into the core of our government at EVERY level. The DOJ is a cesspool of radicalism.

For heaven's sake...Anita Dunn ran communications and Van Jones was nominated to head a position, Cass Sunstein wants to devise ways to rip the lungs out of dissenters and Bill Ayers is designing our education system.

Have we suffered hysterical blindness?

Our economy and jobs/unemployment reports are works of fiction. The global warming hoax was a redistribution scheme. There hasn't been global warming for a decade and a half.

Unions/workers party were given illegal preferences in federal bankruptcies.

We ran guns to drug cartels.

The media would not report on any of it...nor on an abortionist who collected the hands and feet of newborns.

Nor would they report on the destructive penalty/tax/abuse of power that is Obamacare. Or the sleazy way it was passed, the lies and misdirection of every element that is now coming to the fore.

Yet...we are to believe that Benghazi will pull back the veil? Our understanding of the radical left's incursion into the deepest wells of our protections...is as deep as a thimble.

Intentionally so.

We are under assault...from the inside. And...the Agenda Media is not an observer...they are an active co-conspirator.

My only problem with this column is the statement that State understands that its reputation has been damaged. We ARE talking about the US State department here, are we not? I would say that its reputation has been confirmed.

Given this administration's Chicago roots, I don't think there's anything more at play here than a need to win an election by any means necessary. There's no deeper motivation because all that matters to these people, and the entire left, is an accumulation of power. It's only power that validates them in their own eyes because they know that without it the façade crumbles and the fact that they are all very mediocre and not "the best and the brightest" will be exposed. Looking for anything deeper than that as motivation for Benghazi is a fool's errand. We're dealing with extremely shallow people, there is no there there.

State has been left-wing, Internationalist, Arabist for a couple of decades, since Carter- whats new? Why do you think Hillary lawyered up immediately, the day after? Think Whitewater, 100% wins on futures trades, Lewinsky, and on and on. She'll never be caught because she knows there the bodies are buried, and I'm sure that includes inside the corporate suites at the MSM.

THE STATE DEPARTMENT IS SO ANTI-AMERICAN ...
that the good ole USA needs to protect its own interests, with its own desk, in the State Department.

Let's not forget the real person who f*cked us and the Iraqi people: The State Department's own Paul Bremer.

I thought it was a really tragedy to go to all that effort, death and trouble to depose Saddam and then put an incompetent wuss like Paul Bremer in charge of reconstituting Iraq.

Everywhere in this vast bureaucracy with its zillions of (largely useless) employees, longevity=advancement & the Peter Principle is alive and well.

(currently, predictably enough, Iraq seems to be sliding down the tubes)

I can think of something more despicable than the State Department's conduct: Roger Simons silence about Obama's dispositive constitutional ineligibility and Obama's frauds before, during, and after his election. In his silence, Simon has put his career before his country, betrayed his readers and shown himself to be morally bankrupt and intellectually dishonest. How's that for something more despicable?

thanks Joe Biden. We can always count on the likes of you to distract and deflect from the issue at hand. Because everyone knows that Simon is the true puppet-master. Strive to be a better troll.

OBAMA GIVES 'DEMAGOGUE' A BAD NAME.

It used to be that if you wanted the public to forget about a bad economy, you'd start a foreign war. Obama has stood this old saw on its head. Instead of helping the Greens in Iran or the Syrian people before the jihadis arrived, Obama has tried to make the public forget about a bad economy by frightening us about domestic wars: War on Women; War on Guns; War on Republicans; War on Fox News; War on anyone who opposes you.
Obama's Foreign Policy and Domestic Policy are the same: Responsibility to Protect Your Own Ass.

Yes, members of the State Department should have stood up to the efforts by either the Secretary or the White House to misrepresent the facts of the attack.
But the comparison to Alger Hiss is unsupportable rhetoric. The person directing the lie was either the elected President, or the Secretary of State, appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. As a general proposition, we want our State Department to carry out the policy of our elected and appointed leaders, or our policy becomes unmoored from the corrective of democratic will.
That general proposition does not allow for the willful creation of falsehoods to be presented to the American people solely for domestic political purposes, but it's a sin far removed from passing secrets to our fiercest enemy.

"...willful creation of falsehoods to be presented to the American people solely for domestic political purposes, but it's a sin far removed from passing secrets to our fiercest enemy."

I consider systematic lying to the American people from the most highly placed representatives in the land to be a "sin" (choose your word) of incalculable proportions and not really comparable to anything else.

Saying...this was bad, but THIS is worse doesn't cut it.

Yes, according to the traditional, historical, American model. But we're living in a synarchy now, and the state's fiercest enemies are no longer automatically somewhere over the water.

"synarchy"

I got a new word. Didn't want it too much, but there it is :)

(I would quibble with the definition, "rule by élites") since these would be rulers are only élite inside their own heads)

The purging of the flag ranks (some dozen or so since Sept 11, 2012) makes at least s wee bit more sense if the whole affair is seen as several different parts of the US govt unexpectedly colliding. Maybe accidentally on purpose, in Petraeus' case.

Yes, the guy 'Montagraph' doesn't look like a Lutheran minister, but please try to force yourself to take the time to follow his technical presentation. Then you can start thinking your favorite fear & loathing catchphrases slogans 'n epithets --probably for a long long time to come.

Roger, it is really funny (in a sense) for those of us who pay attention. Try to remember "America" does not care about Syria - and neither do you.
It is barbarians killing savages and no one cares!
I mean that Mike. Regardless of Obama's nonsensical strategy - we don't CARE!!
The GOP needs to drop this like a hot potato - it doesn't matter - even though it does show ineptitude - no one cares!

Real Americans care that Americans were killed on American soil in Libya and the bad guys were neither captured or killed. When the enemy is so reckless that they shoot military arms including a mortar at us for about 7 hours, our military should make a huge crater and red mist out of the attacking force. It should have taken DNA tests to identify the small pieces of human remains. We had the rare opportunity to respond to a direct military confrontation with overwhelming air power and we failed to act.

Hold on to your hats, folks! A short time ago on The Five that Democrat bellwether, Bob Beckel, revealed how they plan to deflect this Benghazi mess.

His response to hearing the gist of the whistleblower's stories was shock and disbelief. "You're not saying that people called for help and they knew it and they didn't send anyone?!?! You mean they let those people . . . No! That can't be true! I just don't believe it".

So there you have it. They will stress the four deaths and claim that it's too, too preposterous to think anyone would fail to send help and let four people die. The MSM will follow the lead.

Yeah, but the mighty MSM is still, despite the few teeny-tiny cracks, devoted to deflecting bad news away from POTUS. This means that there is a ghost of a chance that Hillary will be hit by the impact of th full story, but even that does not seem likely.

In fact, think back. This is a similar level of anticipation that preceded Clinton's Congressional testimony. She stayed out of country, she fell and was injured, surely when we get her under oath, at last we will see her pinned down and have to tell us everything. Huh?

Well, let's just hope that the questioners show more courage and when she pulls a stunt to unnerve them - such as shrieking "what difference does it make?" or some other nonsense - they will have the backbones to push through that bs.

"...I mean four men are dead; at this point what does it matter (if it was spontaneous or planned...)?!" ("And look at ME. Can't you see how upset I am?! I mean, I, MYSELF ME, I, ME, I, ME, MYSELF....") -The Hon. Mme. Sec. Hillary Clinton

Yep, talking points distributed and operational...

The House hearing on May 8 appears to be scheduled for 11:30 a.m. eastern.

The UK Daily Mail sometimes gets things wrong but often has information you're not getting elsewhere.
