If You Believe in this Country, Send a Check to Ty Woods' Family

Our president may be a self-interested narcissist who goes to campaign and fund raise in Vegas when Americans under his watch are dying in Libya, but you and I —  as patriotic citizens of this country, not to mention empathic humans — can behave differently. My wife Sheryl Longin and I just sent a small check to the Ty Woods Memorial Account (c/o The Irving Group, 4320 La Jolla Village Drive, San Diego, CA 92122) to help the family of the former SEAL who died in the Benghazi terror attack. Woods has a widow and a baby son.

The address at the link is via my friend Hugh Hewitt. Others have risen to the challenge, among them Dick Morris. PJ Media readers can do no less.

As we now know, emails arrived at the White House (and many other government venues) at 4:05PM and subsequently 4:51 and 6:05 on September 11 informing all concerned that a terror attack was then occurring at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and that Ansar al-Islam was taking credit.

We have also learned that in the hours between these initial reports and the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens and other American personnel the U.S. military could have been brought in. They were only hours off shore. It is impossible to know if they would have saved lives, but we do know that nothing was attempted.

The moral reprobate currently occupying the White House avoided (or maybe even forgot about) those decisions and instead later hid behind bogus claims these murders were all because of an unwatchable YouTube video made by some inept wannabe filmmaker in Los Angeles. This quondam filmmaker has now even been arrested for other minor malfeasances in a kind of show trial strategy redolent of the Soviet Union of the 1930s. (Yes, I know that sounds exaggerated, but it’s time to remember the old French saying: Le plus ça change, le plus c’est la même chose…. The more it changes, the more it’s the same.)

Heaven help us if this moral reprobate is reelected. We will have to learn entirely new ways of defending ourselves and of defending our culture and our freedom. I never thought in my lifetime I would live as the member of some kind of “resistance” (speaking of the French), but that could come, or some non-violent form of it, if results are negative on November 6.

Until then, it is our task to fight. Mitt Romney (probably correctly) elected not to ride the Benghazi issue in the foreign policy debate. But that same event — and the consequent incredible level of deception it engendered — has taught us that “it can happen here.”

Most Americans of my generation never thought that. I know I didn’t.  I never thought this country would turn its back on its own people, that it would evolve into an Orwellian bureaucratic state, but that is where it is headed if we continue to let our officials lie on the level they have with Benghazi.

But since “it can happen here,” it is all the more incumbent on us to resist. As we send our small checks to Ty Woods’ family, we should simultaneously redouble our efforts. The greatest memorial to those who died in Benghazi would be to elect a new administration. And telling the story of Benghazi, digging deeper into the inconsistencies and explaining them to your fellow citizens, to those who are of good heart but perhaps not as interested in current affairs as you, can make a difference in the few short weeks that come.

UPDATE from, commenter John below (thank you, sir):

Roger,

Glen Doherty is the other SEAL who died that evening. He also has a foundation set-up in his honor.
