October 3, 2012 — The Night Liberalism Died
For much of the debate he seemed to be teaching the basics of economics to a recalcitrant and not particularly bright undergraduate.
This is not entirely surprising to those who remember 2008, when Obama seemed so clueless when queried about taxation and the Laffer curve by Charles Gibson of ABC.
Next debate will probably be different. Humiliations this extreme don’t happen often in politics and rarely twice in a row. But the first blood drawn between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama will most likely be remembered above all.
One suspects the electorate wearies of these things fast. The first half hour of the first debate is usually about as much as most people can take, especially that odd and sought after group known as the “undecideds.”
We know who won that. For now the Peggy Noonan naysayers can go back in their holes. Mitt Romney is riding high. Let’s hope he stays there.
UPDATE:
Bigger Winners from Bebate: Bibi Netanyahu, Chris Christie.
Big Losers: Innocent citizens of Libya. Watch out below!

Nailed it, Roger. I suspect that a large portion of the electorate saw a politician who could use a fig leaf (at least) to hide the absence of a reason for four more years.
Or who could start a diversionary war.
Syria & Libya come immediately to mind. A few drone attacks or bombings & then the media plays it up as if Obama won WWII.
With Libya, it seems awfully convenient to have had substandard security in place, when everyone around you is screaming for increased security, that leads to a situation where you have a fallback in case you bomb in the debates.
Why restrict his options to overseas?
Ahh… I see you’ve read some of his executive orders.
We won WWII in four years. This guy can’t beat a bunch of 5th century tribalists with the whole Marine Corps at his disposal. Now, the only way that is possible is if you were too busy campaigning to give the order, or maybe you want to lose for some reason?
It should be pointed out that isolated Japanese soldiers fought for decades, I think as late as the 60′s.
And the Civil War almost continued as a terrorist action, if Lee hadn’t countermanded Jeff Davis.
At any rate, the US is not “allowed” to fight the way it did. And, unfortunately, we here in Israel are much more than restricted than the US – often BY the US.
(This is meant more as a defense of Bush and the US than of Obama.)
You do know those “5th century tribalists” took down two iconic buildings and also managed to fly a plane into the headquarters of our defense establishment killing almost 3,000 people in the process right? Here in the United States, under George W. Bush. let me take a wild guess here, you think Bush did a great job?
Yeah, but:
Those tribalists had been planning this since before 43 was in the WH. He bears some of the blame, but his predecessor continued to let those same tribalists kill Americans and other nationalities overseas prior to 9/11.
Obama will probably stay out of Syria and just let the Turks handle Assad. However, I read this morning that he’s got Libya & Mali in his sights (manned fighter jets for those uncooperative Al Qaeda types in Libya who ignored his Arab Spring memo and attacked our Embassy, and drones for any stray Al Qaeda hanging out in Mali). After last night he needs to prove he’s not completely emasculated. What better way than to take out a few Al Qaeda?
“What better way than to take out a few Al Qaeda?”
Pull off a Madrid style bombing, a major terrorist attack on US soil in a Republican run area right before election day.
2 days before seems about right, with a televised speech nationwide denouncing both the attackers and the inept response from the locals, ordering in the federalised Guard and FEMA under some emergency decree to “clean up the mess” while letting fly a few B2s and Predators on predesignated targets in Afghanistan or elsewhere to show “a strong response to this blatant attack on America by our Great Leader”.
Worked in Spain, got the leftists elected there (despite it being quite clearly an ETA attack, not AQ, and ETA supporting the leftists), would have worked in London if better timed for the elections there, no reason it won’t work in the US.
Iran. Well, I can hope.
That has been my exact feeling for a while now.
We saw the emperor with out his cloths on (no press to protect him,no teleprompter and bankrupt policy) for the first time someone actually stood up to him and didn’t cheer as if he was the second coming. This is as Churchill said the beginning of the END ,or the end of the beginning!America is the winner and hope for the rest of the world if they listen.
I don’t think Roger nailed it. He says Leftism “doesn’t work”. Well, he’s assuming that Leftists and normal people agree on common goals. No, Leftists hate the private sector in the economy. Socialism wrecks this sector in every place it’s tried, but socialists don’t seem to care. No, they care, and are happy to see that socialist policies destroy the private sector because that is one goal of every socialist. Ditto ‘social issues’. Sure, welfare has destroyed the black family and is undermining whites as well. The family is the keystone of human society; Leftists want to destroy it. The ACLU sues every day to force Christianity back into the catacombs. Leftists hate religion because religion is the foundation of every human society. And the goal of every Leftist is the destruction of human society. Leftists are not adversaries or opponents to be defeated; they are enemies to be destroyed.
You are so right Jacobite. The Left are literally the walking dead, nothing stops them, they just keep marching forward en masse and mindless. Despite their losses, the infection finds ever more useful idiots in the marxist madrassas liberals call public schools. Their fanatical clerics, called professors, can be found preaching hate about America on the college campuses around the country. They feed on those of us who struggle to make life worth living because life to them is just a progression of needs and wants to be met. The hunger will never be filled because the emptiness is spiritual in nature and everyone knows Nature is a bitch.
Roger especially nailed it with this:
“Liberalism, his ideology, is economically indefensible. It doesn’t work. He had, in reality, no response when confronted by Romney’s positions.”
That underscores the fact that Barack doesn’t understand or care to learn the principles of the Constitution. Also, could someone buy the President (and the entire leftist establishment for that matter) a copy of The Wealth of Nations? Not that it would do any good, but maybe Obama could put it under his pillow and absorb it by osmosis. Instead of “sensitivity training”, they need some sensibility training.

This election is “O”ver.
Indeed, this may be the death kneel of the reign of the Radical-in-Chief.
More to the point, the most intrinsic takeaway demonstrates (except to Obamabots)that the current incarnation of liberalism is little more than full throttle gov’t control. In effect, he exposed (without saying it directly) that the left is aiming to subsume individual rights. If that is not an eyeopener, I can’t imagine what will suffice.
http://adinakutnicki.com/2012/07/01/leftist-dogma-the-same-world-over-freedom-loving-people-beware-commentary-by-adina-kutnicki-32-2/
Near the end of the debate Obama underlined this twice for emphasis, that his goal is for government power to subsume all the individuals. It almost sounded like a loving compliment to America, wanting to do good for her, when he said ‘Americans’ genius, grit and determination’ is why our economy works so well. First, government ensures that ‘everyone gets their fair share’. In other words, a bureaucrat decides that an individual’s genius, grit and determination gains him a gov’t approved kind, type and amount of ‘fair share’. Second, Obama said the individual’s genius, grit and determination will be “channeled” by government to make things better. In other words, the genius, grit and determination must fall into state-approved grooves which define the proper subjects, methods, motives and results for each individual.
Obama’s government believes the purpose of we the people is to support and serve them who hold government power.
Spot on! You, ClarkM, have nailed it perfectly. Liberals are about control of others lives, opportunities and the rewards allowed for achievements. All the while the educated elites and political class determine what is fair and what is excessive.
Social Justice in its varied forms is a yoke used by those wishing to control individuals using age old religious arguments and methods to overcome free will. When “Justice” is defined by those in government you can be sure it will benefit the government NOT any individual.
Funny the godless, soul less Liberals crow about justice, social or otherwise, but they have no standard or moral basis to define their justice. Is it just to find new rights every few years that allow killing of unborn and recently born alive forced aborted children. Next it will be sick individuals using too many resources which will be defined as violating civil rights of healthy people.
Our religious based codes that have been adopted into civil law and were based on centuries of written laws and tried and true methods of administrating them. Much bad law and customs were dis-guarded as society matured. Social Justice is based on the needs of government and its operating organs. NEVER on the bases protecting an individuals liberty, life or pursuit of happiness. The Constitution is all that stands between the American People and the savage, soul less bureaucracy that ALWAYS seeks to rule and will NEVER limit its own power. The people of this country are the only ones who can limit the unchecked power sought by Liberals.
“…death kneel…”
Ha, ha, splendid. I missed it the first time through. Good line.
In those immortal words of Hans Solo … “Don’t get cocky kid”
Thank you for saying that. There is a long time between here and Election Day– although if I were Mitt I’d be pounding the pavement getting early voters while I’m riding high.
There are more debates coming, and rest assured you’ll hear the standard memes trotted out. “Mitt Romney won on style.” <– Are people really saying this with a straight face?!? Amazingly, yes.
They're already preparing the comeback stories. All Obama has to do is just barely hold it together and he'll be The Comeback Kid– even if he gets his ass handed to him. And if he loses? Well, it wasn't Liberalism that lost, it was Obama. Roger's right to point out that Obama's disposable when/if he's voted out.
The problem is that Obama's whole point is that he's a brilliant communicator. That's his only qualification for the Presidency, and the Left's been pumping up his unique brilliance since day one. That's gone now.
Yeah, more debates coming — but early voting has already started. Some “undecideds” will likely decide last night was a tipping point and send in their ballots. Enough to make later debates less important? Don’t know.
Excuse me, but the ‘brilliant communicator’ was without his teleprompter last night!
Yep. I see a lot of conservatives dancing the victory dance already.
I don’t have a high opinion of such people.
I disagree. The reaction you are witnessing is more modest, I think; it reflects a sense of satisfaction that the central Conservative message delivered by Romney was delivered in a crisp, comprehensible, powerful and articulate manner that will last the test of time, regardless of whom occupies the White House in January 2013.
“Yep. I see a lot of conservatives dancing the victory dance already.”
I never thought Romney a conservative, but some us caught wiffs of it when the man was making some truthful statements next to the boy-king. You seem content for an Obama second term then? No? Ah.
Romney isn’t a conservative, he’s the lesser of two evils. Not voting is a vote for Obama, so Romney won’t get just the pro-Romney vote but also the vote of those wanting to get rid of Obama at (almost) any price.
This will inflate his numbers to beyond the percentage of the population that really agrees with his plans, in itself a dangerous thing as it may very well make him cockey and think he’s got support more broad than it really is.
Conservatives aren’t counting anything as in the bag. There are many days between now and November, and the Obama campaign is certainly going to run in their media allies, resembling the cavalry arriving in those old time movies.
The Democrat storm troopers will be finding all KINDS of lies, ensuring we all understand how looney tunes Mormonism is (except the kind practiced by Harry Reid that is), finding the punch press operator who ran over his dog in the driveway because he was so upset about the rumor of layoffs after Bain arrived as advisors or owners. And how about that accounting clerk from the Winter Olympic Committee staff who, thinking back, recalls that Mitt winked at her while glancing at her breasts, and she’s ready to tell us how emotionally scarred she is and always will be.
I would say conservatives are mostly relieved, less than overconfident. Relieved that Romney was able to forcefully and effectively advance arguments FOR a right-facing change in direction. They now know they have a person who will be in the spotlight and, if at his best, will carry the banner forward into the fray. Whether it will be enough to awake sleeping electorate and overcome the busloads of voters who will dutifully support any and all Democrats running — that’s an open question.
Nit pick alert. Neo, I agree with the intent of your Han Solo post, but when quoting fictional spacemen, one must do so accurately. Solo said, “Great shot kid. Don’t get cocky.” As for Obama, I choose to quote Obi-Wan, “Who is the more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows him?”
I came to the conclusion four years ago that the Fascist Media would turn on Obama if they sense a defeat, if only to cloak themselves in a veneer of false objectivity. in the wake of all these rigged pols if Romney were to win it would show the electorate that the Fascist Media are the arrogant liars we always thought them to be.
Turning on Obama would be an admission of dishonesty and/or incompetence by the Democrat Media, and their narcissism rivals that of Obama himself. It ain’t gonna happen.
As deep in the tank as the Democrat Media has been for Obama, we ain’t seen nothing yet.
You’re right. The dirty tricks have just begun, we ain’t seen nothing yet.
You Americans are just getting an inkling of what scum the Left really is.
In Israel, we’ve had a longer experience with the perfidy & unscrupulousness of the Left.
“In Israel, we’ve had a longer experience with the perfidy & unscrupulousness of the Left.” I think not. The left in the US has been working its’ dirt from the beginning. The first Democrat elected President, did so by backstabbing an alleged friend, while he was said friends’ vice-president.
kind of hard to do since we have been dealing with it since first few years of 1900′s.
You’re right davidt. The MSM doesn’t like to dwell on things that make their dear President look bad. The so called “fact checkers” will now unload on everything Gov. Romney said last night.
Obama’s poor debate performance will be an off limit topic.
Hawk – it is already happening. Politifact rated Romney’s claim that 5 studies backed up his assertion that he wouldn’t need to raise taxes on the middle class as “Mostly False.” Why? Because the Tax Policy Foundation replied to the 5 economists that criticized the original paper. Seriously. That’s it.
So, if a liberal claims something, it is true. If five conservatives point out flaws and claim that the liberal is wrong, they are “lying” as long as the liberal answers back. And the media “fact checkers” wonder why we think they are full of it.
Turning on a President Romney will bring up all kinds of questions as to why they treated Pres**ent Obama with “kidd gloves”
No it won’t. They won’t bring up those questions. We’ll hear about it only in the conservative media, and the brain-numbed masses won’t notice it.
That was a good rave, Roger — we deserve it, and need it — thanks. From your lips to ….
You hit on all the right points. Especially enjoyed your quip re the “kids” getting to live la vida loca again if Mitt is elected. Best about the debate, I thought, was that the straw man image that had been painted of Romney Legree shilling for the evil corporations was demolished. Aside from the good arguments he made, he came across as sincere, human, caring — and passionate.
But — it ain’t over till, well, you know. Romney should wear his victory, it looks good on him — but getting cocky could lead to unwariness. O’s gang are a nasty bunch, not prone to roll over easily, and most very likely have something … what could it be? … up their dirty little sleeves. It’s actually time to be very, very wary — and prepared for anything.
Romney did really well — much better than most expected. He deserves congratulations. But … he was playing against a very subdued opponent. Next time will be much harder, against both the O and the mediator. Lehrer’s attempt at the beginning to give O the advantage was obnoxious, but Mitt overpowered him, and he gave it up. Let’s not forget, however — that the next “ring master” will have taken notes and decided on a better strategy to “get” Romney.
From the very beginning, O seemed subdued — low energy — contrite — it was strange. Why didn’t he hit on the 47% thing? (No doubt Romney was prepared for it — maybe O knew that, and that’s why … who can know?) Even in his closing remarks, he was very bland. (Krauthammer thinks it was caused by overconfidence … I don’t know.) I doubt he will be next time.
So for now, it’s good to enjoy this. But not too much — not yet. There’s still a lot … a lot … of work to do.
Go Mitt!! Our lives and our world are depending on you! Keep it up!!
Reasonable chance that next time, Obama-the-guided-by-polls debater, will hit hard; an opportunity for Mitt to be the cool, presidential guy in response. Which may (we can hope) just make Obama go over the top, trying for a reaction.
Nope, Fat Ed says he can’t hit hard. Ed Ranting Schultz at BSNBC this AM said that as POTUS, Barry can’t come on strong against Mitt without raising the spectra of an “Angry Black Man” that will frighten American voters.
Gee,.. maybe there is an upside to some Liberals’ “white guilt” that have them seeing everything through a Racialist Lens now. Yep, our Slow-Jamin Prezy Kool has to retain his, ah,… cool, or else he‘ll have his own ragged but trusty race can be played on him, per Ed.
How ironic, but still,… Nice. Stay Presidential, but on offense, Mitt, too much is riding on the line now.
This debate is a good example of how important the debates are for GOP candidates.
The debates are the only chance the voters get to see the GOP candidates without the Democrat Media’s filters and spin, notwithstanding the biased moderation.
Agree completely. I said last week, if Romney is going to win, the first 45 minutes of the first debate were paramount. Still believe that.
Romney performed beautifully.
What saddens me the most is that this vote should not be close. It’s a disgrace on America that it is.
Tex — totally agree with you. The explanation is that for at least 40 years people have been ‘schooled’ into the liberal mentality. PC was another nail in the coffin of critical thinking. I’m glad there appears to be positive change on the way.
next debate there will be someone on the killswitch, ready to cause a “malfunction” if things go bad for Barry Soetoro.
“we’re sorry, due to techical problems beyond our control we’ve lost connection with the studio, we now revert to our regular programming. If communications are restored, we will return you to the debate”.
Also agree, because the media cannot omit this real news event (but members of the media on the debate “panels” can steer the questions and responses, like Lehr did). After the debate, I saw one analysis program which simply put excerpts of Romney and Obama side by side and then alternated a portion of their responses. It was like watching a polished and professional educator talking about the content of a book he wrote, verses watching a high school freshman giving a book report on a book he either didn’t read or barely grasped what was in his Cliff Notes.
Right you are, davidt, right you are. The debates DO matter. As I replied to Mr. Preston’s post of last night, my mother changed her vote after my younger brother talked her into watching the Social Security/Medicare portion of the debate. Mom mostly gets her news from the Today show, and she had been buying into their narrative that paints Romney as someone who will take away her Medicare and leave her out in the cold. After hearing Romney own words, unfiltered by the bias of NBC, she declared, “Matt Lauer has been lying to us!” and decided to change her vote from The (d)One to Mitt Romney. She also didn’t like the way Obama looked down and smirked rather than looking Mitt in the eye. We live in Alabama, and my Mom was reared with notions of common courtesy as being important notions in civilized society. To her, Mitt’s demeanor on stage showed that such things are important to him, as well, and I think Romney connected with my beloved Mother because she finally was able to see him unfiltered.
And to Mr. Simon: Your clear analysis, as usual, did not disappoint me. God Bless PJ Media.
The next debate is going to be interesting. I suspect that Barack the street thug is going to show up for that one.
I’m in agreement with the theory I’ve read elsewhere this evening–in addition to being too lazy to properly prepare, lost without his teleprompter, miffed that Lehrer wasn’t doing enough to carry his water, and overwhelmed that a white politician was daring to sock it to him for the first time in his career–after years of having his hand kissed and boots licked.
He and his inner circle were genuinely rattled by Sean Hannity’s re-release of the unexpurgated version of his 2007 Angry Black Man ebonics-inflected rant at that church. He was terrified of coming off as threatening and aggressive. Hard to remember that he sold himself in 2008 as the giver of racial absolution…
Of course, after this humiliation, he will blow off his advisers, overcompensate with a vengeance at the next debate and go Chicago-Thug all over Romney. He will rip his mask off in front of the entire nation and really screw the pooch. Who knows? Maybe he’ll start dropping subtle threats of street violence in his campaign ads between now and Nov 6? Vote for me or else?
The “Subtle Threats” won’t come from Obama. They’ll come from some new “Angry Black Leader” and they won’t be subtle. “Once you go black you can never go back”
And who’ll be impressed by those threats, subtle or otherwise? The reality is that the gangbangers will murder, rape, and rob…each other, as they and their predecessors have done for the past half-century. At best (or worst, depending on your point of view), some gang leader will decide that there’s phat lootz to be gotten by sacking the Eloi nests in the deep-blue cities…which may actually decrease the votes that The Newspaper gets.
Tomorrow might be different: When the welfare money goes away,
the underclass will bite the hand that no longer feeds them,
and earn quick cash by carrying out a little light sabotage
here and there – perhaps in your neighborhood. Crazy ? Maybe,
but ‘Section Eight’ can refer to a new kind of insanity now.
Those threats are like the sword that hangs. It’s the threat that counts not the sword falling.
There are many on both sides who are hoping for riots on Election Night, and for the same reason: it will give them an excuse. Anyone with the option would be advised to stay clear of large urban areas that evening.
The next debate is the Town Hall format. Remember “Pony-Tail Guy” from the 1992 debate? The one who wanted the president to treat the public as his children? Expect to see a bunch of those types of people sprinkled through the audience at the next debate, whining that unfit parent Mitt Romney is going to take away their allowance so he and his rich buddies can blow the money at their elite country club (which — if there’s a call-back to the previous GOP administration — the Oprah-esque questioners will say is no doubt run by Halliburton).
Intersting remark about the Left and Haliburton, George Soros boght a significant stake in Haliburton in 2006 IIRC. So while Soros gives millions to Lefty groups he’s making money from the very company they fequently revile.
Sorry for the typing/spelling errors, I’m running on about 3 hours sleep and didn’t proof read.
I don’t know if the moderator(s) for the second debate have been chosen yet, but if not I strongly suspect Dem influence will be coming down hard on them to be a “more objective” (eg, harder on Romney) non-Lehrer. They might not even need persuading. Something for Romney’s people to prep for.
October 16, Hofstra U, Hempstead, NY — Moderator: Candy Crowley — CNN Chief Political Correspondent.
October 22, Lynn U, Boca Raton, FL — Moderator: Bob Schieffer – CBS News & Face the Nation.
VP Debate October 11, Centre College, Danville, KY — Moderator Martha Raddatz, ABC News
At least no MSNBCites, so we shall see. Part of Romney’s success in last night’s debate was in being able to force through immediate responses to Obama’s b.s. before they had a chance to pass.
We still have a month to go. I would proceed with cautious optimism. My theory:
For the next debate, POTUS will create a “wag the dog” crisis and have bow out!
I agree. I immediately said O will not do another debate after this disaster. He will come up with some excuse so he won’t be embarassed again. His ego won’t allow it.
If BHO does even *slightly* better in the next debate , the MSM will declare him the winner. They are just dying for that stomach turning “comeback kid” meme, and though their ability to create memes and have people believe/repeat them is fading, it isn’t gone yet.
Maybe; I’m thinking Obama will give it a “Chicago try” on the 2nd debate, which will backfire, so the 3rd debate is more likely for your scenario. October 22nd is a _much_ better time for an “October surprise”.
Keep your eye on the two most important swing states: Ohio and Florida.
Obama’s plan was to buy Ohio with the auto bailout. He knows that no Republican has won the Presidency in modern times without Ohio’s electoral votes.
The needle would have to move considerably to swing Ohio back into Romney’s column. But if it does, Romney is on track to win the election.
We still have a month to go. I would proceed with cautious optimism. My theory:
For the next debate, POTUS will create a “wag the dog” crisis and have bow to out!
It was also a courageous performance on Romney’s part. His willingness to go directly at Obama (while disregarding the moderator) was a stark contrast to McCain’s flaccid approach in 2008.
Though I saw Obama fans on Twitter criticizing Romney for both blinking too much and not blinking enough (??), the truth is, Romney. Didn’t. Blink.
It was a good night for conservatives , but let’s not pretend it was a victory. The lib blogs are fired up for Obama to get blood in next debate.
If the American voting public re-elects this ‘empty suit’ Unqualified, Incompetent, Inefficient, Affirmative Action, Blatantly Lying, Teleprompter Kid USURPER for a second term then it will be perfectly acceptable to class those that do vote for him as ‘morons’. Apart from the Blacks of course who will still overwhelmingly vote for him no matter what, as that’s what RACISTS do.
Romney has the wind on his sails !
The “one” will have to turn to dirty tricks to survive.
He might even be tempted to go to war to win the day, I hope iran will be the target since he seems to love the muslim brotherhood so much …………….
Syria seems much more likely…
Mexico, it’s easier to reach. Remember, the first weenie is lazy.
Turning on Obama would be an admission of dishonesty and/or incompetence by the Democrat Media, and their narcissism rivals that of Obama himself. It ain’t gonna happen.
I’m not so sure about that. In some of my whimsical moments I suspected that Obama was some kind of manchurian candidate sent in to not only destroy the democratic party but the vast left-wing movement as well. The Fascist Media have to choose between saving what’s left of a failed liberal ideology or tossing a failed president under the bus. Sure, the Fascist Media love their power; they got a taste of it during Watergate and have never let up acquiring more of it. If I’m right, look for more critical coverage of the Libya affair and the polls will reflect the Rasmussen polls.
The Lame Stream EneMedia have already conclusively proven just how deep ‘in the tank’ they are for the USURPER. They refused to vet him initially and they PROTECTED and ‘carried water’ for him ever since. The latest example being their total devotion to the Regimes concocted ‘Web Video’ story as the cause for the death of the Ambassador in Libya to the exclusion of all the evidence and the truth. Only once the Regime finally and belatedly were FORCED to admit it was MUSLIM Terrorism did they finally acknowledge it. Of course neither they nor the Regime can bring themselves to say ISLAMIC Terrorism. There is no such thing as ‘Radical’ Islam or ‘Fundamentalist’ Islam or ‘Islamist’ Islam there is just Islam of course and the REAL misunderstanders of Islam are ‘moderate’ Muslims.
Can’t wait for Ryan vs. Biden.
That will be a massacre…….
PeeWee Herman vs. Mike Tyson?
Don’t count on it, Biden IS THE SMARTEST man in the room in the white house.
In my opinion, Biden is a comic genius, channeling Foster Brooks to hide his control of Obama. Biden is one of the longest standing members of the CFR (counsel for foreign Relations, a Bilgerberg committee) you DON’T get there being stupid.
During the Palin/Biden debates, Biden LIED 14 times in a row yet was declared the winner by the driveby media. This is what will happen again, Biden CAN spew “facts” just by opening his mouth and lying, he doesn’t have to say anything real. The liberal “fact checkers” will swear to his lies. Ryan better be ready call Biden a lier to his face or he will lose to the lies. Palin cleaned the floor with Biden if you understand the subject matter, but if you don’t and most people didn’t, His lies served him even better then the truth would have.
After all, Rog. What good is a beachfront home on Oahu, if the peasants are revolting!
Who will take care of the garden and the meals, and the cleaning? Moochelle?
Hah! Good one!
Lets just stop for a minute and accept the USERPERS premise shall we that all the economic mess he inherited from Bush is the problem. Then we can positively say that the USURPER is incapable of solving the problem in fact he has made thins WORSE. Less Americans are in employment than there were when he took office so this 4 million plus jobs created is a MYTH, America’s debt has risen by 6 TRILLION in less than four years when his promise was to HALVE it, the average income in the USA has fallen by $5,000, there are over 14% of Blacks unemployed TWICE as many as under Bush. Ridiculously HIS prescription for improvement is more of the same FAILED policies he has been following for the last 4 years.
“I inheritted a mess!” –BO
“Congress has the power of the purse” –Nancy Pelosi, CNN October 2nd, 2012 in trying to deflect blame for the Libya attack from Obama.
So, since Democrats controlled both houses of congress since January 2007 and Obama was a Senator at that time, Obama himself helped caused the mess he ‘inherited’, according to former Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b83/farquah/CongressionalMajoritiesAndDeficit.jpg
In his closing remarks in the final debate, I’d love for Romney to say something like: “It’s true that President Obama inherited a troubled economy. The problem is that he made things worse and has no plan that can make things better. If elected, I’ll inherit an even bigger mess than he did. However, I won’t spend four years complaining about my predecessor. Instead, I’ll get to work to solve the problems.”
This is excellent. I will cross-post it with attribution elsewhere!
The trouble is, that Romney is essentially center-left. He just looks “right” because he’s next to Obama.
Look at his pandering about saving Medicare, which is essentially a handout to seniors. Look at his comment about people shouldn’t be allowed to start a bank out of your garage. Yes, yes you should be able to. Would other people be dumb to give you money? Yes. But it should be possible.
Unfortunately, this started with Bush’s compassionate conservatism stuff – basically big government. Sure, compared to Obama’s massive, all encompassing government, it might look small, but it still sucks
So, genius, I guess that means you’re going to vote Obama so we can have a genuine leftist or you’re going to vote third party, also a vote for the left, so you can remain pure.
So you’re as sick of that attitude as I am?
We can’t turn things around over night. You have to slow down before you can turn — and we may end up surprised. Romney, after all, cited the Declaration and Constitution last night.
Add me to that list. These days, the nattering nabobs of negativity are ostensibly on the right. Or so it appears, anyway.
Well, yes, this Conservative will be voting for Johnson. I don’t win, regardless of which of these guys win. Socialism or Socialism-Lite? Hmm, let me think. I’ll go with neither. If the Republican Party wanted my vote, then they should have offered me a Republican, not a Democrat. That Party has long since ceased being Republican in nature.
Medicare a handout? Hardly. Do you even know from where Medicare funding comes? Payroll deductions.
Let me get this straight. Taking money from payroll and giving it to others is not a handout? Pray tell what is?
FlyingFish, you are obviously an idiot. It’s called a contribution, not a tax, so it’s not a tax!
And if it’s not a tax, it can’t be a handout!
Got it?
Yeah.
Since a great many of the elderly aren’t getting to retire (no pensions, savings destroyed… it’s not an option), it’s their own payroll taxes that are helping to keep Medicare alive – for themselves and for others. Lets not become elder-haters!
I am so genuinely worried about my country if Barry is re-elected…anyone but Obama is my credo. Romney will do just fine for now.
I hope Romney’s staff lets him know that americans are ready for something big. All Mitt has to do is convince people he won’t squander the money-or his chance at history-and we will let him do what ever it takes to nail the coffin shut on these socialist for good (if not for at least a couple of decades), and get the country turned around.
If you are really that “worried” about it, get out there and work to give President Romney a conservative Senate and more Congresscritters. He said he will work with the Congress and I take him at his word.
Center left types dont talk about the importance of the 10th amendment, say the fed gov screws up everything it tries to run, and completely trashing obamas green energy initiatives. Romney delivered plenty of good things for the tea party, but was smart enough to deliver it in a way that did not alienate centrists and leave himself open to obama class warfare attacks. I thought it was a brilliant performance, worthy of Reagan.
Obama supporters tonight: OMG! Our emperor is naked!
What happened to his glorious new clothes!
I prefer Orrin Judd’s take, “The clothes have no Emperor”.
+1
I liked the phrase “trickle down government” which succinctly captures the idea of a hapless, helpless citizen waiting for sustenance and wherewithal from his beneficent Uncle Sam.
Which isn’t humane at all but really a form of enslavement.
Julia, from cradle to grave.
Liberals hate that you have personal freedom and want to curtail that by increasing your dependency on them.
Agree, it was a great counter to obamas trickle down economics comments. I also liked romneys attack on the “unelected board of burocrats” in obamacare, it allowed romney to pick at obamacare without being vulnerable on romney care since it did not have that feature. Romney also was able to seperate romneycare on 10th amendment grounds, by saying those kinds of programs are OK at the state level, but not the fed level.
Here it is. This is what the Children of the Left are all about:
‘If Romney is elected, dad would be back and they (the media) would get to be kids again, living la vida loca while protesting until blue in their collective faces everything Romney does in the coming years. They get to be “against the man” once more. They don’t have to defend the man, such as he is.’
Daddy’s home. Time for a serious spanking. It will continue . . .
In 1990 I went to the swearing in of our Republican Governor after eight years of Democrats following on eight years of a very liberal Republican who mostly governed with Democrats. Because those 16 years coincided with the construction of the TransAlaska Pipeline and the transformation of Alaska, the whole governmental and economic culture of modern Alaska developed in that time. I was walking back from the swearing in with a group of high-level ‘crats and appointees when a woman, a technocrat in the Governor’s Office, turned to us and said, “This is going to be like having to ask your father for the car keys again.” So true, so true!
A wonderful night for conservatism! A wonderful night for America! A wonderful night for mankind!
Who would have thought that Mitt Romney, long seen as a moderate or even a RINO by many, would be transformed into the champion of conservatism and perhaps, just perhaps, salvage the American Experiment?
I know, I know, we still have a long way to go. The way will not be easy. There are many trip-wires and pitfalls to overcome. The beast of “liberalism” still has its’ teeth and cunning. It still has its many allies in positions of great power. Tomorrow they will regather their strength. They are far from vanquished.
But tonight! Tonight, they were rocked by a mighty body blow of truth. For those of us who believe, it is not hard to see George Washington’s Hand of Providence once more guiding and protecting the flickering light of freedom and liberty.
Mankind’s last, best hope may yet survive the forces of darkness.
For that, each of us, believers and non-believers alike, should be grateful. Tomorrow the struggle resumes. But right now, let us pause a moment and rejoice and be thankful.
What fantasy world are you living it?
A man who governed to the left of Ted Kennedy, who still thinks socialized medicine is a good thing, who is a militant homosexual activist, and he trounces a committed Marxist in a debate and suddenly he’s a “champion of conservatism”?!?!?!
He’s not as far left as Obama. Agreed.
That doesn’t make him good.
That’s like saying that half-rotted spinach is health food because it’s not arsenic.
How foolish it to think that conservatism won this farce of a debate.
Don’t you get it? They are all a like..
You think you have a choice here?
Not really.
We are being manipulated to think that MITT ROMMEY will save us!!!
Mark my words.. things will only continue to go down hill.
FF
It was easy to see which one was the intellectual in the room, and it wasn’t Obama. Problem is, no matter how outstanding Romney performed in the first debate, the numbskulls the support Obama were not watching the debate. How dare you try to educate yourself before one of the biggest elections in America.
I saw libs on Facebook say they were so “disgusted” by the first 10 minutes, they were just going to watch The Daily Show to see how it turned out. Seriously!
Oh, yeah, a lot of them were watching. Based on what I heard at work this morning, they were watching and they saw a disaster and they are not happy.
Comment from a co-worker: “My wife’s a BIG Obama supporter, but she walked out of there saying, “That was pretty bad.”
Oh, so sad, too bad!
I’ve said for awhile now: Obama’s reputation is wrong, he’s not really intelligent – he’s just clever, the way a good con man is clever.
Roger:
You nailed it. Since my wife and I don’t need to be convinced we gave up after the first 30 minutes in favor of reading. Anyone who cannot see the trouble this country is in is either a drone or an idiot and probably both. This president is strong willed and blinded by ideology while propelled by an alien hatred for this country and it’s founding. For some reason this does not disqualify him in the eyes of our voting population to be president. That is something we should be very afraid of. Why is our citizenry so devoid of serious critical thinking skills. Why are we so uninformed about the virtues of this great country and our founders? Clearly this start in the schools and in our homes with the young children but if we do not vote O out of office, we may never get another chance. When god willing we do win, forget the celebration and start to heal this country.
Great assessment of the debate.
Tommy,
Absolutely correct!
“Why is our citizenry so devoid of serious critical thinking skills.”
I will go a step further. Why are people so devoid when the ramifications of Obama policies will effect them more. If the economy fails, it’s going to effect everyone.
“Why is our citizenry so devoid of serious critical thinking skills.”
For one, because the channels by which they get their information have been corrupted.
For two we’re mostly a bunch of abortion-as-birth-control, homosexual-pacifying, back-stabbing hypocrites.
Exactly. I work with some pretty intelligent people, but all they know comes from the MSM.
They honestly believe NPR is the most unbiased news source available, and the rest are fairly well balanced.
Well, except for the right-wing Fox News, of course.
That’s the 60s radical paradigm, still believed in and pushed, apparently, by the people who run NPR. It’s supposed to be “alternative” radio. Asking the question the “mainstream” media won’t ask, doing the stories they won’t do. Speaking truth to power. Huh. “Alternative” doesnt’ mean what it used to. The underground isn’t the same underground it was back in 1968. The counterculture is no longer hippies and communists. The revolution came and went and nobody noticed. They won and didn’t realize it. Now they’re all confused. They’re the elite. They’re the power the rest of us are trying to speak truth to. Old hippies and radicals. It will be a better world when they’re gone.
It’s not a lack of critical thinking skills. Most folks can puzzle things out. It’s a lack of a moral compass. They cannot see that some things are just wrong, so intellectual rationalizations built upon premises of a new, false morality sound just fine. They have accepted a new morality. Everything flows from there. They worship false gods, so they accept these “truths’ from their “high priests” as Gospel. Religious beliefs trump reason almost all of the time.
^This^
If people blunt their consciences, and don’t have the slightest standard of right and wrong, never mind the intellect, it just becomes a conspirator.
“They have accepted a new morality. Everything flows from there. They worship false gods, so they accept these “truths’ from their “high priests” as Gospel. Religious beliefs trump reason almost all of the time.”
Well said.
You can rarely reason a man out of his relgious belief. His faith isn’t based on reason, but his ideology should be. When a man suspenses with religion and supplants it with his ideology.. well, history is litterd with those results.
Was Obama demoralized by the release his full remarks in the 2007 speech ?
Since his minions at the MSM have been working hard to demoralize all of us relative to the upcoming election, turnabout is fair play.
The big deal Obama harped on relative to Katrina/NOLA in his 2007 diatribe:
“What’s happening down in New Orleans? Where’s your dollar? Where’s your Stafford Act money?” Obama shouts, angry now. “Makes no sense! Tells me that somehow, the people down in New Orleans they don’t care about as much!”
Turns out the Stafford Act was waived for New Orleans and Senator Obama voted against waiving it, reason given that it was embedded in an Iraq war funding bill.
For him to rant and rave like that to rile up his black audience at Hampton University, beyond duplicitous, beyond shocking.
I wondered about the timing of the tape release but last night it became clear. The release of the tape took the race card totally off the table for the debate. There was no way the President could bring it up even subtly with the Hampton speech so fresh in the public’s mind.
I think the other thing the 2007 tape did is it deterred Obama from using the 47% remarks against romney, since he knew romney would counter with the even worse 2007 tape. It was sort of a deterrence based on mutually assured destruction.
Good insight. I hadn’t been able to put that together so thank you.
O, O, woe…The thrill is gone… It’s gone away for good…How lonely Chris will be (apologies to BB King).
Like I said on another post somewhere else you have to be careful with thinking Rommney won. By the evening news tonight the networks will have their talking points sent to them, the job offers during a second term and the license threats will be in the hands of the network guys and all will return to normal. Besides in the cold light of morning the ABNBCBCNNMSNBC guys and gals will realize that the last 5 years or so of journalistic malpractice have ruined whatever reputation they had.
No threats needed, Glenn. These people do what they do because they are on the same team.
And if you think it’s “5 years or so of journalistic malpractice” you have been BADLY asleep, buddy.
Try more like 50 years, and that’s selling it short. The only difference is that they are being more and more obvious about it as the years go by.
Did you think Walter Cronkite was a good, objective journalist? A loyal American?
Walter Cronkite was a lying traitor to his nation.
HE personally won the Vietnam war for the communists by lying on TV that we had already lost the war, a war in which we NEVER lost a single battle. If you ask a modern person what battle we lost in the Vientnam war, they will reply, “Tet offinsive, we got our butts handed to us MAN”. THE Vietcong lost about 50% of their troops in the Tet offensive, they TRIED to stand and fight the US troops like a real army, were beaten VERY badly and as a result were NEVER AGAIN AN EFFECTIVE FIGHTING FORCE. Yet, Cronkite told America we had lost the war. TREASON.
Mittens landed body blow after body blow. Obama invested in green jobs and not teachers. Spent time on health care not jobs. Energy production is up because of development on private land. Obama sees the economy as fixed and redistribution as the only way to make things “fair”.
America’s enemies were watching. May it be as clear to them as it was when they observed Reagan, the days of pushing America around are OVER if Romney wins. Over. “Dad” will be back on the world stage as well.
I just worry about a zinger at Romney’s expense next time. Obama is not much of a debater. He’s more comfortable being worshiped and adored. But he’s clever enough
to deliver a one-line put down if Romney avails himself of the opportunity.
I definitely expect obama to go full slime mode in the next debate. In this one I think obama wanted to sit on his lead and not rock the boat, and was surprised at how efective romney turned out to be. But next time I expect the chicago machine poll to come out. Romney will have to make sure he does not get cocky, and is prepared for an all out attack on him in the next debate.
First, only a fairly small minority of the res publica watched the debate and most of them had already made up their mind and were just watching to see how their champion fared. Lefties always believe their own crap and a major component of lefty crap is that lefty and smart are synonyms; it is inconceivable to a lefty that a Republican troglodyte can bitch-slap the smartest President we’ve ever had. They were shaken and shocked and some even said some unguarded things last night.
Today, the cold-blooded apparatchiks will assess the situation, send out the emails and arrange the appearances to begin making lemonade of the lemons. Tonight’s news, The View, and the Daily and Jon Stewart shows of the next few days are when the vast majority of the electorate will learn about the debate. What they learn about the debate will NOT be what you and I saw. Don’t sell your gold and pack away your brass and lead yet.
What you say is true, but their actions reveal more than anything they say.
I noticed O flew to Cleveland not to long ago, biggest dem stronghold in Ohio, to keep his base going as the voter registration is really down there.
After speaking to a friend last night who is running for county commissioner, I think it’s already over in Ohio. He has been doing a lot of door-to-door campaigning and the feedback he is getting is that its Mitt– even amongst some life long dems– in rural Ohio. Barry throwing working class whites under his bus is going to cost him.
Disagree with the characterization that only a small minority watched last night. Around 130 million voted in 2008. Over 65 million watched last night. Sounds like the right folks are engaged. Cheers -
It seems to have had a large audience to the extent that these things can be accurately measured. If all the people who could have been watching all the TVs that were said to be on, it seems about 67 million were watching. How many were actually watching and paying attention, how many just had the TV on, and how many were just lying is another matter. But, granted, it was a pretty good crowd.
Since Obama thinks his education policy is a positive to run for reelection on, it is now vitally important to appreciate just what he and Arne Duncan have been pushing under that banner. I have been writing all summer about the social, cultural, political, and economic weapon of Transformation education, K-12 AND higher ed, has been turned into. Yesterday I penned a response to Duncan’s contention that they see it as an investment and RR sees it as an “expense.”
http://www.invisibleserfscollar.com/is-p-20-education-for-collective-democratic-participation-really-a-good-investment/ is the post that explains what the “democratic purpose of schooling” will mean. It’s an investment in the sense of importing Formosan termites if you really hate your neighbors and want to ruin their house and the rest of the subdivision.
Gutting individualism via the classroom and keeping schools dysfunctional to aid community organizing more than one generation are not what people want from education in 2012. We still need as many Axemaker Minds as our schools and colleges and universities can come up with. Even if it is inequitable. So many things that matter to all of us are.
Get over it.
Didn’t Romney express some admiration for Duncan last night?
In fact, both men came across as moderates and had an informative, issues-oriented, civilized debate. Romney won, but Obama did OK. Now the red-meaters go to work. Neither the right nor the left wants to acknowledge the latter (that Obama did OK); the right because he has to be seen as an incompetent fool, the left, because they have to believe that he can do much better, whereas all that he could really do “better” is to go into attack mode, and see if it works.
As in any competitive event, sporting or political, one always makes a huge deal about the last game and how it is of lasting importance, blah, blah. Sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn’t. I suppose one could make the point that Romney had to do well, and he did. Obama didn’t have to and he didn’t. Beyond that…time will tell.
You are delusional. As usual.
Oby looked and sounded like warmed over hog slop. Only a delusional commy could even TRY to cover for him. Even most of those, like chrissy, couldn’t get it up.
Nice try. But you can’t spin that disaster.
Please save your ‘death of liberalism’ predictions, Roger. We’ve heard them before. Do not underestimate the determination and ability of the Chicago machine. A cornered prey is always the most dangerous. Romney did an excellent job and showed himself to be good natured, thoughtful, well-informed, straight forward and quite capable of being president. Obama looked tired, disinterested and annoyed. The lack of a teleprompter clearly placed him at a disadvantage. I hope people were paying attention.
Where is our resident left-wing troll, “Cynical Wonder”?
Isn’t he supposed to be here to tell us that we have no chance and our cause is hopeless and we should just give up?
He’s crying into his organic, vegan oatmeal.
Make that raw vegan oatmeal. Eww.
Sorry I missed Chris Matthews. Bit I did catch Al Sharpton frothing at the mouth at Obama’s timidity and Romney’s lies.
Poor Al. Lost weight, moderated his tone, lowered his profile and became a frequent visitor to the White House. “My moral compass” Obama calls him. And why not? After the Obama family’s last pastor, Reverend Al is a step up.
Al thought Tawana Brawley and Crown Heights were far behind him. Svelte, moderate Reverend Al was hoping for an ambassadorship to South Africa during Obama’s second term. Kenya perhaps. Even Egypt maybe. Genuine respectability.
Alas, it’s back to the fringe for Al. Might as well start eating that good pig again. Not get his hair conked so often. Get out the old soap box.
Personally I miss the ‘duck flip’ at the back.
The Boy Wonder will come back swinging next time. Pride will keep him from calling Van Jones. The flash mob race riots are on hold until the next humiliation. Obama needs Anerica’s cities to burn so he can cancel elections.
‘Liberalism will come back, of course, under one or more of a million names.’
One of those names is called Mitt Romney.
This – unfortunately.
I am not that worried. Romney knows the tea party is watching, and will primary him out in a heartbeat in 2016 if he backslides too much. The key though is we need to take the senate as well as ousting obama. If we have a totally repub gov, romney is the type that will go along with the prevailing conservative concensus.
Yep. The enemy within.
Republicans elected this time around will be under more scrutiny then any other group of elected officials in history. Technology makes this possible.
The Republicans understand that they are hated almost as much as the Dem’s, and their citizens WILL BE WATCHING THEM like hawks. The days of politics as a genteel sport are over, computers keeping track of EVERYTHING they say and vote for, and an energized and involved electorate will change politics in America for the next generation anyway.
All of the above comments. I only pray that it is true, that we will hold Romney’s abd Congress’ feet to the fire.
After Gingrich resigned as Speaker, the Conservatives went home, and we had a Moderate Republican President and a Moderate Republican Congress. It was a disaster, and that’s how we got Obama. Obama did not create all these government things, like Homeland Security and the TSA for example. He just takes advantage of them. We are stuck with Bush’s creations. What Republicans make become permanent… unless it’s good stuff like welfare reform. The good stuff, Dems will destroy, and the bad stuff, they will super-size.
So, I am very wary of someone like Romney with a Republican Congress. No brakes. I do not like cars without brakes.
Romney is a fine man in every way, until it comes to politics. There, I cannot trust him. I never know where he stands. Like Obama, his words have expiration dates. If I could trust him, I would be a huge supporter, but he is Flip-flop Mitt, so he bears close watching.
Exactly.
Vote for him as less bad than Obama?
Okay. That’s not unreasonable.
But don’t try to sell the garbage that Mitt Romney is a “fine man” or a conservative.
He’s a slick huckster, saying whatever it takes to get elected.
Obama found out that the truth hurts.
Great summary.
Thoughts I would add.
Obama comes across as indifferent. Someone who doesn’t enjoy their job. He projects an attitude that this job is below him. He’s the type that show up at the party and just wants to be somewhere else. He likes all the trappings of the office but just doesn’t want to get his hands dirty, roll up the sleeves and work. It’s just not what this country needs right now. We need a grizzled, silver haired fox, the type that when you go and ask for something, the fox says no, turns you around and tells you to do better.
If you were voting for Romney, you will be excited and more determined to get out the vote.
If you were undecided, you have good reason to give Romney some more attention.
If you were voting for Obama, but not necessarily happy with it, you have good reason to rethink. Especially since O looked stupid.
If you are an enthusiastic Obama supporter/Romney hater, you are too far gone for us to bother with.
Another excellent observation by Mr. Simon. Liberalism (or, environmentalism, progressivism, pacifism, PCism, etc) only “works” in the abstract, never in the real world. Examples abound here and elsewhere. Reminds me of the quote, source unknown, “When one does not see what one does not see one does not even see that one is blind.”
I guess the next nationwide polls are going to have to have a +15 D as their sample.
Advice to Mitt Romney: Do not let down your guard. Never, ever trust a liberal to do anything but interfere, spread half truths, spread outright lies, do anything to divert people’s focus from the real goal (such as comment #30). My immediate goal is to remove the current occupant of the White House with someone that will actually defend our constitution. Too many Americans have given their lives defending it. I believe that if Romney hears from his constituents about something he’s doing that they don’t like or agree with, at the very least, they won’t be totally ignored. He is someone I believe we can work with. The only thing I’ve ever heard from obama that I could possibly agree with is he claimed he had no further political aspirations after a second term…. I hope we can provide him with his goal after his first term.
Again, do not trust him or his party, ever. You know they have “something up their sleeve”.
You’ll have to settle for someone who will attack it less virulently, because that’s the only option on the ballot.
To Clint Eastwood: Sir, you are more farsighted than anyone thought. The empty chair speech is looking more and more appropriate.
Sadly, liberalism hasn’t died. It’s just going into hibernation.
Perhaps, but it should appear in front of a Death Panel.
Hmmmmmm. Well the Step n Fetchit act didn’t work. Next we will get the Black Evangelist act and that won’t work either. The Won is tired and wrung out. Plus there’s really no way to take the filthy sow of his administration, slap a little lipstick on it and sell it to the world anyway.
“Well people, I guess we’re gonna need that October surprise after all.” “Let’s go with the African one. I don’t really want to get into it with Iran.”
Of course liberalism doesn’t work but I don’t think it will ever die. Perpetual motion machines, Ponzi schemes, Make-a-zillion real estate courses and lose-tons-of-weight-overnight diet pills don’t work either, but they’re still all popular. Wherever someone wishes there were free lunches, liberalism will be there until other people’s money runs out.
It ran out long ago. At some point they just default and institute a police state, fire half the bureaucracy and install their dictator. Then you will see the mines opened, The forests cut, the oil pumped, and foreign lands enslaved. At least we will have jobs.
The problem is you have a couple generations of nancy boys and feminists with their whole lives tied up in liberal mythology. Refuting it means refuting them and making them look in the mirror and seeing the jacked up losers they are. I bet it wasn’t pretty at the Matthews house this morning as fat red-eyed Chrissie got up, kicked the fat, popped a Midol, started crying all over again.
oops kicked the cat
I dunno, I kinda liked it the way it was.
Thanks. I liked that image. I’m still enjoying it right now. %^))
No doubt Tingles will be seeking solace from his biggest pal, Johnnie Walker.
Now don’t tell me that Hillary (and McCain) didn’t enjoy that last night.
Bill must have gone out and bought himself a hooker.
with someone else’s money for sure
I don’t see how Obama can effectively debate about a system he doesn’t believe in. He doesn’t believe in America or anything it stands for.
^^^ This ^^^. That’s the whole thing in a nutshell.
Succinctly stated. What rally cry does Obama have? Four dismal years of failure? I did hear Obama throw in the, “bin Laden” success, but it was quickly stated in passing.
Romney was succulent — full of juice!
Would that I could agree with Simon. I was surprized and delighted by the debate last night. However, you all know as well as I that putting facts in the face of arrogance only makes the arrogant angry, not repentant. Obama partisans will only be angry at Romney, not impressed.
It kills me when political writers use the common meaning of “liberal” (“on the left”) rather than the political meaning of liberal (“lover of liberty”). Progressives are not liberal; they are in fact anti-liberal.
Liberal: I may not agree with what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.
Progressive: There is only The Narrative; everything else is bogus and unworthy.
The Republican Party was, like the Whigs before them and Libertarians since, founded explicitly on liberalism. The Democratic Party, from their founding in defense of slavery to their present-day redistribution, have only ever had passing flirtations with true liberalism.
Oh, would the GOP grow in stature were it to reclaim the mantle of liberal. It should do so; after all, liberalism (our Constitution, Declaration of Independence, Federalist Papers, Revolution) is what US conservatives are conservative about.
As a huge fan of Chesterton, I tend to agree with you. If he was a liberal, then I don’t want to end liberalism. It is the progressive, ever-expanding centralized government mindset that we need to oppose.
You could add progressive post modernist. Everything is everything. And nothing. There is only power … and its use.
Finally, finally, the mittens came off. I knew there was a fighter down there somewhere.
“One suspects the electorate wearies of these things fast. The first half hour of the first debate is usually about as much as most people can take, especially that odd and sought after group known as the “undecideds.”
Normally I would agree with you but Romney was doing such a good job of sacking Oby on every play that it was mesmerizing. I found myself actually staring at the tube almost on the edge of my chair with anticipation of just how Romney would bumfuzzle the empty suit on each successive down.
The score would have been embarrassing beyond reckoning if the obamessiah didn’t own the refs. Even so the win was decisive.
You are so right. He hates the job, loves the perks, thinks he is smarter than everyone and that’s why he didn’t prep! But as was said, why should he have to prep, it was his job, didn’t he know it!
Sitting on the view & telling the world he was ‘EYE CANDY!” Talk about an ego!
Going there instead of meeting with Bibi, should be his undoing!
His casual attitude was so evident, it made me sick!
This is who we hired to run the country? Man were we stupid!
His smirk & disdain for Romney was palatable! My disdain for 0b0z0 is also!
I can’t wait for the debate on foreign policy! Wow, it will be smokin!
Last night Obama came across as someone who is not serious about winning a 2nd term. His incompetence illustrates well his laziness & cavalier attitude towards the requirements of the job. As he often voted “present” as a senator, he treats the job as voting “present” (considering how he has handled the challenges of the job indicate that very well). I think he wants out; I think he can hardly wait to settle into his Hawaii digs & play golf for the rest of his life.
I’m beginning to think that you’re right about that. And I think that Michelle wants to stop being First Nanny, and retire to Hawaii, and visit Chicago every one in a while to rouse rabble for old time’s sake.
Obama without his Palace Guards is like Christopher Stevens without his.
Ouch! but true
The obamessiah is not Jimmua Cartah. Carter actually believed his upside down political philosophy. Oby is pushing a line of BS he KNOWS is all smoke and mirrors as the front man for the Chicago machine. El Duce could pull it off because he was a power mad wannabe Caesar. Oby is just an empty suit with a pronounced strut.
It has to be exhausting to dance on endless stages dressed up as a great leader when you know you are nothing, from nothing, believing nothing and standing for nothing. Right now being a one termer and retiring to your palace in Hawaii and raking in millions just performing on stages for big money a few times a year is looking really good to Oby.
Axelrod will push the hollow man beyond exhaustion into manic frenzy. I can’t wait. Its going to be very entertaining.
“Liberalism will come back, of course, under one or more of a million names.”
No matter what fancy name you try to package it in, tyranny is always tyranny and it eventually collapses under the wait of its own stupidity.
It’s just a shame they ruined such a perfectly good word in the process. Being liberal used to mean you supported the right to live free from government and neighborly coercion, as long as you weren’t doing any coercing of your own.
Now liberalism and tyranny have become synonymous: fighting for the right to force other people to do what you want.
“Liberalism,” as we here in 21st century America use the term, is already an alias for ideas which once paraded around under the names of Marxism Socialism, Progressivism, as well as any number of other obscure titles which the left dreamt up to hide behind and to market the same old nonsense under a new name. They have to do this because the ideas themselves are non-starters. Normal people reject them.
When normal people lie, which sadly we all do, we string a set of words together to describe something that is not true. When leftists lie, the words they use are themselves fundamentally untrue. This would be a neat trick if it weren’t so destructive.
The set of nonsense we call “liberalism” will not die because the human character flaws which they are founded upon will not die. Were some alien species to pluck 100 people at random from the earth, give all of them amnesia, and drop them on an uninhabited planet, it would be no time at all before “liberal” ideas would evolve on their own accord.
The fight against this nonsense never ends. You can disabuse a few of the leftist-inclined among us, but far from all, and new leftards-to-be are born each day.
From the Captain to crew on April 12, 1912 :
“Please rearrange our deck chairs. That “bump” we felt? No worries.
I may have been dozing off, but did I see Michelle drag BaRack off the stage by his ear at the end?
Brilliant. I laughed out loud and that isn’t easy after reading so many good comments. Right up there with Clint Eastwoods satire.
Clint Eastwood’s empty chair vindicated.
Huckaby needs to set up a spinning odometer clock on his show, similar to the national debt clock. Somewhere on his show, where everyone can see it.
Except this one should be counting the times that Obama blamed bush, blamed ATM machines, blamed a tsunami, whatever.
Call it the Obama Excuses Counter.
Maybe Bush was responsible for what Carville called Romney’s use of a ‘chainsaw’ on Obama. Bush did it (Obama’s vacant/seething response).
The Oblamer meter.
Neo-commies (constituting the new type of soft communism that currently is running this country) count the vote, when they have to. Please, remember that not to get surprised on November 6th. Please, also, stop referring to neo-communism as “liberalism” – enough of euphimisms.
What happened last night was a ChicagoLand type “bait” thrown at Romney. Wait till the next round.
Nonetheless, we just saw the reason why the laisy guy considers this theater of “campaigning for President” a “drag.”
Correction: The night Progressivism Died!!!! Classic Liberalism is still alive and well!
O not serious about winning a second term? The guy’s never been serious from day one!
He was called out on the carpet. Exposed for the entire country to see. Clint Eastwood has it right–he’s a fraud.
He let Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi design Obamacare. He’s been absent on the economy, and understands absolutely nothing about it. “I’ve been in business for 25 years, and I have no idea what you are talking about.”
When asked to defend his policies, all he could come up with is taxes on corporate jets? Donald Trump? That’s it? What?
This is a guy who liked the idea of being president, but never had the temperament nor the skills to succeed at it.
He’s an idea. Ideas are thoughts, not substance.
Let’s see if America gets it. Yes, we’re the Honey Boo Boo crowd, but in the end of the day, the American people usually get it right. I think they will.
PS–it’s only going to get worse. This is the real O. No matter how much coaching he gets, it’s not getting better.
Exactamente!
Poor Willard has an awful job staring him in the face however. How do you turn a nation of welfare cheats and honey boo boos into America again? I am not hopeful. Then we have a couple million elites sending their kids to the ivy league to get history degrees and art majors. The really smart ones are studying up for the next round of illicit derivative schemes.
Lib Media Outlets Scramble For Place
I think CNN saw the writing on the wall some time ago and are making changes. A check of Lucianne dot com and Politico reveal a desperate attempt at catch-up … throwing oby under the bus most callously. I look for Crissy and Mika to disappear soon never to be seen or heard from again. Actually I look for MSNBC to vaporize entirely quite soon.
I love it.
“Big Losers: Innocent citizens of Libya.”
Why? Are you saying Obama who couldn’t protect our ambassador from the Islamist murderers was better for the “innocent citizens” of Libya?
Big Losers: Islamists of Libya.
Hah! Killing islamists takes precision and care. All oby needs is some dead bodies.
Unfortunately.
Nonsense, you can’t fix stupid. Liberalism will continue to be an enemy of this country to be fought until the end of time, every forget about it, never relax about it and never give it any slack.
remember GHT at no. 63:
Conservative Republicans can begin teaching that we are true Liberals, reflecting those great founders of our nation and its Declaration and Constitution.
So, let’s start calling the Lefties “neo-coms”. Use that term all the time. It’s brilliant in its precision and clarity.
Also, during the next four years let’s recover True Blue for Republicans and Commie Red for the neo-coms.
Liberalism did not die last night. It was ably represented by Mitt Romney against the lying, radical socialism of the present administration.
Try to remember that the US is THE classical Liberal democracy. The Conservatives in this country are busy trying to preserve free enterprise, the rights of the little guy to live and work on a level playing field regardless of race, creed, color or sex, the ability to worship freely, and free speech. They are also trying to keep the government accountable for the lives and money it takes.
Point taken.
America is not a democracy. It is a REPUBLIC.
There is a vast difference between the two.
So we’re not going to turn into Sweden-on-the-Mississippi next year?
Good. It would never have worked. They would have tried to manage all critical decision making over the lives of people from pre-authorization call centers in Atlanta, with LaTonya telling you you can’t have that new less invasive surgical procedure or expensive chemo drug that works better for 25% of people because Zeke Emanuel and the Euthanizers at the IPAB havn’t approved it.
Clint Eastwood’s empty chair has been vindicated.
However the election turns out there’s a lot of growing up to do amongst the flower children of the 60′s. And they don’t want to. I made a lot of money investing in companies that cater to kids staying kids.
America has more cause to worry about a moronic populace that could be so misinformed and stupid enough to re-elect an empty suited, Incompetent, USURPER.
Romney spanked Obama last night. Bigtime.
“What we may have witnessed on October 3, 2012, is the death of liberalism. And it deserves to die because it is a greedy and self-centered ideology masked under the pretense of generosity…”
“The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others… We are different from all the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we’re doing… Power is not a means, it is an end… The object of power is power… Always there will be the intoxication of power… We are the priests of power… It had long been realized that the only secure basis for oligarchy is collectivism. Wealth and privilege are most easily defended when they are possessed jointly. The so-called “abolition of private property” [Communist Manifesto] meant in effect the concentration of property in far fewer hands than before… In the years following the Revolution it [The Socialist Party of Oceania] was able to step into this commanding position almost un-opposed because the whole process was represented as an act of collectivization… It had always been assumed that if the Capitalist Class were expropriated Socialism must follow; and unquestionably the Capitalists had been expropriated. Factories, mines, land, houses, transport, everything had been taken away from them; and since these things were no longer private property it followed that they must be public property. Ingsoc [Socialist Principles of Oceania], which grew out of the earlier Socialist movement and inherited its phraseology, has in fact carried out the main item in the Socialist program with the result; foreseen and intended beforehand, that economic inequality has been made permanent.” George Orwell – 1984
It is important that Romney and Ryan continue to take the offensive and show how INCOMPETENT and DANGEROUS this Administration has been and continues to be both economically and in the international arena.
For the past month or so, Mr. Simon has shone as brightly as the brightest stars in conservative pundity. Congratulations, Mr. Simon, not just for this article, but for every one you have produced recently. The line to walk between incisive comments and borderline lunacy at the madness in the world is hard to walk, but you have been doing a great job, particularly recently.
Now, Romney had a 4 homer day, but the season is 162 games. One thing for sure is that the media will re-trillion their efforts to retain the Child King. Romney MUST prepare for that. Another thing is almost as certain. Axlered doesn’t stack his chips behind the “competance” line. He observed last night that his horse is a disaster…but the horse is only one element in the race. If it wasn’t already a near certainty that the marxists are going to pull out all the stops to steal the win, it is now. There was a brief report yesterday that the Liar is going to bomb terrorist hideouts in Libya. Chalk that one up as a certainty. I also just moved up military action in Iran a couple of notches on the probablility scale. But what I’m really worried about are the things no normal person could possibly anticipate. We may learn in the next few days about Romney’s homosexual love affairs, about the babies he forced his concubines to abort, about the secret lovers in Hondurus, about the satanic rituals he practices in secret, whatever. Nobody can imagine what they will come up with.
The criminals will stop at nothing, and they are now desperate.
That worries me too.
These are totalitarians and what is at stake is THE one chance to destroy America’s power for a very long time, if not forever.
As I often say, totalitarians think in terms of war, not politics.
We must be ready to answer to any bloody trick.
Let us pray.
Thank you sincerely.
Hear, Hear!
Roger is an anchor of sanity, judgement, and perspective.
When we stop to consider that promoting the homosexual agenda is the ONLY issue on which Mitt Romney has been consistent….
Modern liberalism, in its “progressive” form, has been dead for more than 30 years. It’s still dead. Obama is a product of post-modern America’s absorption of politics into celebrity and “cool,” as well as the night-of-the-living-dead-zombie panic of 2008 — nothing more.
Great column, Roger.
Is it true the Obama campaign are petitioning for a change in debate format, to one more in line with affirmative action principles?
Next go round, they want Romney questioned by Chris Mathews, and the Obama by Whoopi Goldberg.
Seriously, what we witnessed last night was the inevitable end result of what happens when the product of a coddled process bumps up against real competition when the stakes are high as can be. The only other such dramatic example would be the incompetent but decorated surgeon being bumped out of the way when the patient flat-lines on the table by the less charismatic but more technically skilled guy.
This was the Peter Principle, in full color.
The Night Liberalism Died?
Did ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN go off the air?
Did the government employee unions all disband?
Did Hollywood go out of business?
Did all the major American newspapers cease printing?
Did all the colleges and universities shut their doors, never to be re-opened?
Did all those wonderful left leaning millionaires & billionaires like Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Mark Zukerberg suddenly lose all their money and go bankrupt?
Has Sallie Mae and Freddie Mac been shut down, never to be heard form again?
Has Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and the host of other wealth transfer programs been overturned?
If no, then liberalism is not dead….far from it.
All that happened, is their Suck Puppet in Chief was shown to be the sock puppet we all knew he was. And that is all.
Let me be very honest, I do not like Milquetoast Mitt Romney, but I like Obama even less, so it was with joy and gladness in my heart that I saw Mitt Romney beat Obama like a drum in last night’s debate. That is the kind of attitude and demeanor that has been sorely lacking in his general campaign. There was a man who I firmly believe was willing to fight for what he believed in, and was fighting for the American people.
But make no mistake about it–a good debate performance is one thing, the destruction of liberalism is quite another.
The one big thing I have against Milquetoast Mitt, is that I do NOT see a person who is willing to take on the institutions that are the underlying support of modern day liberalism. It’s one thing to make the president look like the fool he is, but it’s quite another to shut down the government employee unions, the blatant Marxist/Freudian propaganda enablers that are our colleges and mainstream press, and the Useful Idiots than are the Hollywood elite.
However, at least Milquetoast Mitt showed himself to be Mitt the Magnifient last night. Had this been a boxing match, the referee would have stepped in after the third round and stopped the fight.
Republicans have this bizzarre idea that just by having their guy win the election, or even winning a debate, that all is going to be right with the world. Are we so short sighted as to forget what happened when Bush and the Republicans controlled the house and Senate, and what little good that did anyone?
The liberals can easily afford to throw Obama under the bus, as they have their operatives all over the government bureaucracies, media, colleges, non-for-profits, etc., etc., and they can afford a mere four years of Mitt, or even eight, as they will hardly run away and hide in fear.
It’s going to take one great debate performance to turn back the liberal tide, a lot more. Beating up on a sock puppet is easy, taking on the entire liberal establishment is something else entirely.
- Alexander the Great
Well said.
We didn’t even cut off the head last night, much less kill the beast.
Still, it was fun.
Big government didn’t die after the 1994 elections and liberalism didn’t die after last night’s debate. Too many people have a vested interest in their survival to let them die. Both might take a break now and then, but they’ll always come back.
Don’t please don’t. It isn’t time to pronounce liberalism dead. It isn’t buried, it can never be buried, like cockroaches that infest and befoul whatever they inhabit, it will be around to haunt us. Let’s not, in the immortal words of George W Bush, misunderestimate it.
As long as there is evil, with its deceit and people who wish to be controlled by others who seek to dominate them, it will be around. As long as they can get their free lunches, guilt free because “we’re victims” sloth and corrupted families, guilt free abortions, perverted obsession with sex, guilt-free theft of the fruits of other’s labor, and property, as long as the sin of envy is allowed to be a poltical good, it will be around.
All we had last night is a long ignored fight with untruth -but it must be constant and sometimes risky and uncomfortable when the personal attacks come, as they will.
Good job Mitt, late but well done.
“For much of the debate he seemed to be teaching the basics of economics to a recalcitrant and not particularly bright undergraduate.”
This comment is one I disagree with, because it denigrates what a bright undergraduate is.
This was a talking to a petulant child, who doesn’t want to know that 2+2=4 and throws a hissy fit.
No! I don’t think we saw, last night, the death of liberalism.
What we saw was the initial descent into the grave of Progressivism.
The Liberalism of Jefferson will return, stronger than ever, reducing the role of the Federal Government in the lives of Citizens, and Restoring this Republic.
Free Lunch May Cost You More Than You Think
The following English teacher helps to explain one area that looms large over California’s educational crisis.
This should make everyone think, be you Democrat, Republican or Independent and needs to be passed on.
From a California school teacher – - –
“As you listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration, there are some things that you should be aware of:
I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socioeconomic and income levels.
Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate High, Bell Gardens , Huntington Park , etc.. where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools.
Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I’m not talking a glass of milk and roll — but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten. (Tax dollars at work)
I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or more DO have cell phones . The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having family watch their kids. (Tax dollars at work)
I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or risk losing funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; my budget was already substantial. I ended up buying new computers for the computer learning center, half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America. (Tax dollars at work)
I have had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students here in the country less than 3 months who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them “Putas” ( whores ) and throwing things , that the teachers were in tears.
Free medical, free education, free food, day care, etc, etc, etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled not only to be in this country but to demand rights, privileges and entitlements?
To those who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs.
Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases etc., etc, etc. For me, I’ll pay more for tomatoes.
Americans, We need to wake up. The guest worker program will be a disaster because we won’t have the guts to enforce it . Does anyone in their right mind really think they will voluntarily leave and return?
It does, however, have everything to do with culture: A third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate, and an American culture that has become so weak and worried about “political correctness ” that we don’t have the will to do anything about it.
If this makes your blood boil , as it did mine, forward this to everyone you know including your Congressmen and Senators.
CHEAP LABOR? Isn’t that what the whole immigration issue is about?
Business doesn’t want to pay a decent wage.
Consumers don’t want expensive produce.
Government will tell you Americans don’t want the jobs.
But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase “cheap labor” is a myth , a farce, and a lie. There is no such thing as “cheap labor.”
Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or 6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, he gets an ” earned income credit” of up to $3,200 free.
He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent .
He qualifies for food stamps..
He qualifies for free (no deductible), no co-pay) health care.
His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.
He requires bilingual teachers and books.
He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.
If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled , they qualify for SSI.
Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for Medicare . All of this is at (our) taxpayer’s expense .
He doesn’t worry about car insurance, life insurance, or homeowners insurance.
Taxpayers provide Spanish language signs, bulletins and printed material.
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20.00 to $30.00/hour in benefits.
Working Americans are lucky to have $5.00 or $6.00/hour left after paying their bills AND his.
The American taxpayers also pay for increased crime, graffiti and trash clean-up.
Cheap labor? YEAH RIGHT! Wake up people!
THESE ARE THE QUESTIONS WE SHOULD BE ADDRESSING TO THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES FOR EITHER PARTY. ‘AND WHEN THEY LIE TO US AND DON’T DO AS THEY SAY, WE SHOULD REPLACE THEM AT ONCE!’
THIS HAS GOT TO BE PASSED ALONG TO AS MANY AS POSSIBLE OR WE WILL ALL GO DOWN THE DRAIN BECAUSE A FEW DON’T CARE.

Do not put anything past this administration. Roger, as a child of the cold war you know full well the modus of the perps who perpetuate the “crisis creation” business.
The administration has already “deemed” the Constitution invalid via executive fiat. The camps are not some totalitarian wet dream… they are a matter of legislation on the books now.
They will create an event. The script will be well rehearsed and the MSM is a more than willing accompliss. It is not the event itself in which change occurs…
The left does their dirty work immediately post crisis. That is their modus. They grab power at the fringes until they control every aspect of human existence. It is just the way these control freaks operate.
Thanks for another great article. You have really been on your game of late.
Liberalism was already dead, Roger.
Leftism took a body blow. Their Air Sitar Hero doesn’t like this job, only the perks and the pinkie ring that all the pinkies have to kiss.
He’s ditching class and hanging out with the Magic Bling Parade …this morning, all his media pimps have limps. The Noonan, Frum, Scarborough, Brooks crowd may not be noticing the cut of his trousers, but we all saw the cut of his jib last night. This ship is sinking and the only tingles anyone is feeling up their legs is exposed hot wire taking on water.
The leftist Titanic hit an iceberg last night and the deck chair was empty.
But don’t think for one, single, solitary moment…that leftism is dead. They will come back…with a vengeance. They lost a rigged game last night in a rout.
Obama might not just wag the dog, he might wag the dog..then cook it and eat it.
ACORN/SEIU is not dead. The JournOlistas and their secret society of propagandists are not dead. Distortion, lies and propaganda are about to hit a new gear.
I figure the electorate breaks down into roughly these groups:
40% (let’s call them conservatives) never wanted Obama, or anyone like him, in office to begin with and will vote for Romney.
20% (lets’ call them swing voters) were willing to vote for Hope-n-Change four years ago, but have had it with Obama and want to replace him. They just need Romney to convince them he’s reasonably sane and responsible.
20% (let’s call them partisan Democrats) have had it with Obama and would love to get rid of him, but could never bring themselves to vote for a Republican. They will vote for Obama, if the Dem party can motivate them to get to the polls.
20% (let’s call them moonbats) love Obama and will vote for him no matter what.
5% (let’s call them the corpse-american community) will be pure vote fraud on behalf of Obama.
(the 5% fraud margin gives us 105% total).
That’s why it’s so hard for Obama to win. He has to convince a bunch of swing voters that Romney is crazy or corrupt (“Dog on the roof! Tax cuts for the wealthy!”) and motivate his partisan Dems to vote even though they more or less despise him.
And that’s why last nights debate was a disaster for Obama. Romney looked sane and reliable to swing voters, and Obama convinced his partisans that he’s an even bigger dud than they thought.
“For much of the debate he seemed to be teaching the basics of economics to a recalcitrant and not particularly bright undergraduate.”
Barack Obama is too much of an ideologue Leftist ever to learn Econ 101.
Hopefully, without condescension, Romney educated some of the electorate in the fundamendals of free market economies. Goodness knows, they have been misled enough by Obama & his disciples.
Bottom Line, a real man looks another man in the face when he talks to him, last night he looked like he was a prime candidate for an opening on the View.
Good grief, don’t insult Richard Nixon by saying Obama was like him. Compared to Obama, Nixon was a Boy Scout.
Mr Ferdnandez, of PJ Media fame, already the evanescent nature of going from high to low in a short period of time in this post.
http://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/2012/06/04/ten-minutes-on-a-morning/
I recommend rereading it and seeing Obama as playing the Nagumo role.
One has to remember: Axelrod laid the groundwork in all key swing states with TV ads attacking Romney (the “messenger” ):
1) Bain Capital-two months worth,
2)47% – one months worth,
3)“don’t care about women”-on going,
4)“cut-cap-balance” just won’t work, ongoing;
5)and entitlements – “voodoo slight-of-hand!!!
Message vs. messenger. New Left’s favorite tactic…and Axelrod’s, too!
Romney and campaign team prepared a different tactic. Out-flank Obama (with “messages”-specific data points)…avoid Axelrod’s attack (“messenger”-generalities)ads…which would have been Obama’s aces-up-the-sleeve. Since Romney caught Obama literally flat-footed, only thing left for Obama to do???Look down, look busy or thoughtful or ask to move on or just cut the debate short.
Why? Because Obama’s speechifying (other than the Stafford Clause -Katrina video),ad libbing is Obama’s forte…absent details and specifics. So, Romney drew Obama into a “message” with detailed data points he knew Obama couldn’t handle (right from the get-go, first couple of minutes).
Review the debate…Obama can’t adlib data points. He can make broad generalizations (without a teleprompter) but specifics, he’s dead-in-the-water. Axelrod was able to hold Romney at bay (until the debate) with this tactic and it had worked.
Superb performance by a masterful tactician…Romeny is the man!!!So, totally out-flanked Axelrod’s cadre of ne’er-do-wells. Pray for America. Amen. Axelrod will make very attempt to get back to his “messenger” portion of the equation next debate…be prepared.
OBAMA HAS PLAYED MORE ROUNDS OF GOLF THAN ALL PRESIDENTS SINCE EISENHOWER COMBINED.
I don’t know if the above is true. It just sounds right. What also sounds right is that this guy loves the perks of the job, but he doesn’t like doing the job. Why? Because he’s lazy and probably not all that smart. He’s our first Affirmative Action President and, guess what? Affirmative Action may get a underprivileged underachiever into college. It just doesn’t make him any smarter or any more willing to work.
I think when all is said and done, it will be seen that Chief Justice Roberts gave ObamaCare a pass because he didn’t want to be the one who blocked the first Black President’s signature legislation. In other words, just one more in the long list of people who have carried water for Barack Hussein Obama.
What???
All Mormons must take heart, they will be coming after us next! Let’s see the dog on the roof; Obama ate dog! Didn’t pay taxes – paid taxes, and more than he needed. Doesn’t like garbage men, pix of Romney working a neighborhood wi garbage men! Killed a woman, well he was gone, woman died 7 years after he left. Let’s see what’s left – cut kid’s hair – family says never happened! Oh, Yes MORMONS! So be prepared, we have horns tucked away under our hair. Well with the bald men they recede just like their hair. Let’s see last time we blew up planes, . . . gosh it must’ve been in the 1800′s cause I don’t remember. Well all joking aside, 0 hates Romney & will do anything, anything to stay in office.
Please! Liberalism dead? It would take a lot kill liberalism. The liberals are like the classic movie monsters form the thirties and forties. Just when you thing The Mummy is gone for good because he gets buried in quicksand or the Frankenstein monster has been destroyed in a laboratory fire at the end of the film, they come back to life in the next film to cause more evil.
“they come back to life in the next film to cause more evil.”
Yes. What Obama has been espousing for the last several years is ‘The Son of Liberalism”, which is nothing more than the same tired worn-out ideas of the thirties.
REALLY, HOW CAN ANYONE SPEND FOUR YEARS ON A JOB AND KNOW SO LITTLE…
unless they’re not doing their job.
I envy you. Obviously, you haven’t worked with many affirmative-action hires.
You’re right. I spent my working years in Midtown Manhattan in extremely demanding jobs where you either produced or you were out.
From your mouth to God’s ears, or at least to his smiting fist.
Two words: VOTER FRAUD.
Memorize those two words and remember them the morning after the election.
Have a nice day.
I hope your right. To a Conservative it’s the ideas that fail. To the Liberal it’s the messengers that fail. Never the ideas. That’s why Liberals embrace all sorts of Totalitarian schemes & schemers even when faced with the fact that their ideas have always been linked to the great butchers of history. I worry that Liberalism will not go down with the S.S.Obama. If possible the MSM/Soros et al. will begin to abandon Obama before he costs them too much ground. It will end up being Obama that failed Liberalism not Liberalism that failed Obama. Hopefully by the time Romney, then Ryan, then Rubio, then Jindal have finished their terms as president the libs won’t have a candidate to float. Hmmm Maybe liberalism is dead.
Sorry, Roger, but I can’t agree with you. Liberalism didn’t die. It just got roughed up a bit by a grownup.
re Roger’s remark: “Liberalism, his ideology, is economically indefensible.”
Bingo.
When Romney used the waste of the billions which Obama put into green investments, that was a direct hit.
How many of us, while paying the family bills, has sighed when paying for something that “looked good at the time”? But Obama keeps wasting our money over and over and over, by the billions. American adults may make a costly mistake once, but most of us learn not repeat it.
There is a 5-minute video by a retired accountant on the US debt. It’s masterful. I am a retired accountant too , and I worked with budgets, audited accounts, etc., yet I have difficulties understanding the meaning of billions or trillions. This accountant, in only five minutes, makes understanding easier.

Once again, O makes the evening about him and his anniversary. Nothing much else happened.
I remember sometime back around 2002 being very taken by this perspective that Republicans ideas were objectively “right” and Democratic ideas were “wrong,” and not only did Republicans know this but so did most Democrats, they weren’t ignorant they were just defending the indefensible out of personal pride or some professional obligation.
That was before no Weapons of Mass Destruction were found, before the chaos of post-war Iraq, before Katrina, before the continued deindustrialization of America during the years of recovery under Bush, before the Bush-led immigration bill of 2006 (with the full support of Wall Street Journal and the various neocon rags). Before a lot of things.
Social democratic ideas may not be entirely workable in an aging, deindustrializing, overly diverse, disunited and dumbed down nation such as ours. But neither is the warmed-over objectivism, vulture capitalism, and thw “invade the 3rd world, invite its peoples to America” mentality of the neocons.
I’m voting for Obama.
Many of us are not interested so much in objectively wrong RINO Republican ideas, or the objectively wrong Marxist ideas, adopted by Democrats and RINOs who defend the indefensible out of greedy self-interest, as we are in the objectively right Jeffersonian ideas of the American Revolution.
Tons of yellowcake uranium were found in Iraq, and the chaos there was due to the evil nature of our enemy – Totalitarian Islamo-Fascism. but we are in some agreement, because I fault Bush for failing to establish an Iraqi Constitutional Republic based on Natural Law, so now we have emerging proto-Caliphate Islamo-Fascist nations in the Middle East based on Totalitarian Sharia Law, aided by the actions and inactions of Obama.
It was Clinton who signed the factory and job-exporting, deindustrializing, NAFTA bill into law – as the Marxists Cloward and Piven looked on. Mother Nature was responsible for Katrina, and most of the dysfunctional response was the fault of the Democratic Mayor of New Orleans and the Democratic Governor of Lousiana. The self-destructive tsunami of immigration was caused by Democrat Ted Kennedy’s Immigration bill of 1965.
I’m not defending RINO Bush or RINO Crony Capitalism; I’m just pointing out that the class struggle of Democrat Marxist Socialism in combination with Democrat Crony Capitalism is much worse, and that the latter works particularly well in the destruction of any disunited, dumbed-down nation.
The first sentence above needs re-phrasing:
Many of us are not interested so much in objectively wrong RINO Crony Capitalist ideas, or in objectively wrong Democrat Marxist ideas – both defend the indefensible out of greedy self-interest – as we are in the objectively right Jeffersonian ideas of the American Revolution.
And what does anything of this have to do with conservative ideas? Are you really telling me you are voting for Obama out of concern over too much immigration? Is this a joke?
“Social democratic ideas may not be entirely workable in an aging, deindustrializing, overly diverse, disunited and dumbed down nation such as ours.”
They are not working anywhere. Including Germany, where I live.
“But neither is the warmed-over objectivism, vulture capitalism, and thw “invade the 3rd world, invite its peoples to America” mentality of the neocons. I´m voting for Obama”
They are named neocons because like you, they are selective about their conservatism. But I don´t buy it. If neither are working, as you say, why do you predictably vote for one and not the other?
Obama´s ideas – such as they are – will neither help industry nor decrease immigration or improve education or stop foreign entanglements.
They sure didn´t so far. We´re just failing uglier.
It seems to me that are voting for someone who shares your evident distaste for society as it is. That´s what this really is. The angry malcontent vote always goes to the leftwing candidate, even if he promises to do make everything worse.
It is a misnomer to say what Obama represents is liberalism, at least not classical liberalism.

Rather, what took a beating last night was Statism and Marxism masquerading as big L Liberalism.
Obama seemed restrained and subdued, and other than not having a clue as to what he was talking about, there was a reason for this and why the next debate could be an even bigger blowout. The insiders always report how much he loathes Romney. Unlike his feelings for McCain or Bush, whom he disdains only, he vehemently HATES Romney. That kind of hatred is a sign of true fear. I think Obama hates Romney for being everything he isn’t – self-made, successful, knowledgeable in experience, ETC. Maybe it’s prescience of him losing his crown. For this reason, I believe Obama and his handlers told him to cool it. He could not even look at Romney. He was biting his tongue and distracted by his loathing for Romney. Well, that didn’t work out so well. Now the Lefties are screaming for blood. They want Obama to go for the proverbial jugular. His handlers may loosen his reins and take his collar shield off. But the smarter ones are probably thinking that if he is let loose, all his true feeling will explode ans his true nature will spill out all over before the world again, but this time in a much, much worse way.
Whoever gave the order to the audience to sit on its hands and remain silent ought to get a medal. Without his chorus of sycophants and chanting Occupiers, Obama is helpless to know if he’s being heard. And I thought it was instructive that he wouldn’t look at Romney although he knew Romney was looking straight at him. He was a sullen sophomore home on a visit from university, barely containing his contempt for Dad who is explaining to him why his ideas aren’t great and in fact aren’t even new.
“desserts”–not “deserts”. Copy-editor, where are you?

TY. I was wrong. I never knew this.
Leftism has suffered a serious reversal, but is still not dead, just temporilly discredited. Remember that even if romney wins big there will still be about 1/3 of the electoral votes in the union that are safe dem. Leftism will never totally die until its proponents no longer dominate academia, hollywood, media, and there are no longer public employee unions. That is where we need to wage our next fight, after Obama is gone, and his programs reversed.
Leftism will never die because it’s not about living as we define life. Liberals are motivated by their progressive wants and desires and how those needs are met. They exist just to feed and they feed on the living, those who work to live and provide for those they love. The Left, for all their lofty rhetoric love no one but themselves. It’s all about the feelings not the facts. Feelings come from the heart and according to the Bible, the heart is a wicked and deceitful thing that can’t be trusted, sounds like the Left to me. Maybe the Democrats should replace the donkey with a bleeding heart. Then the Republicans could replace the elephant with a bleeding heart and a wooden stake thru it. That is the only way to kill the undead or so I’m told, Happy Halloween.
This is a very important insight. Leftism is essentially marxism, and it will never quit trying. It is also based in human nature and the universal human tendency to seek utopian solutions. There will always be low-life politicians who will seek power by promising sheeple other people’s money. There will never be a time when these ideas won’t appeal to at least some people. Unfortunate, but true.
Loser Al Gore says it was altitude that made Obama’s performance so bad. Is he saying Obama was high, because he sure looked it.
I was born and raised as a progressive liberal. My mom graduated from Columbia University in Social Work and went to work in DC in the Labor Department. My Dad had a MBA from Harvard. My mom was the Vice Chairman of the Dem Party and in College I was the president of Young Dems and a Poli Sci major at a very liberal college. I use to do commmunity organizing and get out to vote in the poor neighborhoods. So I am quite familar with the left and how they operate. I am presently a independent and very far fiscally right leaning, probably much further right then Romney, but I am still voting for Romney. Last night he took it to the left and based it on truth and no spin, it was great. But forwarned it is not over with the left have many tricks up their selves so be prepared, this fight is far from over. Keep in mind logic and truth will win in the long run and conservatives sure have that on our side.
“just desserts” not “just deserts”.
Otherwise, I hope you are correct.
The debates are the only chance we have to see the GOP candidates without the Democrat Media’s filters and spin???? Have you been living on Mars Roger or are you just plain dumb? Ever hear of Fox News? You know, that network you righties are always claiming have such high ratings? How about the Rush Limbaugh show which you also claim has high ratings? You gonna try and tell me they never mention Romney? Then we have all those rightwing websites which it seems to me they get a whole lot of traffic. So do please spare us this crap about the news being dominated by the liberal media.
It´s not going to die, alas. But to anyone who can process information, it became obvious once again that (modern) liberalism has no interest in ideas and results. It consists of claiming the high ground and demonizing anyone who doesn´t toe the line. It means to destroy (“transform”) the existing society with no idea what to do next. It is built on mistrust, division and constant warfare. In other words, they´re a bunch of malcontent children, obsessed with scoring points.
Obama has literally nothing to say. But then some of us knew that.
In debates between a sitting President and a challenger the challenger almost always win. Carter won the first debate in 1976, Reagan in 1980, Mondale in 1984, Clinton in 1992, Kerry in 2004 and Romney in 2012. Roger wants to pretend that this is something earth shattering. It isn’t. Conservatism didn’t die in 1976 or 1984 or 1992 or 2004 and liberalism didn’t die in 1980 or 2012
