Polling 60% Democrats will give them an advantage, which is no doubt just what NYT had in mind. It is rather like the economy, all slight of hand....I can remember when the unemployment rate at 5.3% was considered amazing back when Clinton was president, now 5.1% means ruin. He has a reputation of being non-ideological. I could be wrong, but I suspect the NYT/CBS poll frames its questions in a very vague and leading manner. Negative responses of any kind are deemed helpful to Democrats---even though the respondent is a convinced Republican. There's no doubt but that others possessing substantial knowledge regarding polling techniques will be take a look at the data. It will be interesting to see what they say.
