Swede,

We can. Reasonable pay so the best will serve, coupled with term limits so they will go. A Representative who served one four year term, and was paid a million a year and was ineligible for re-election would be a bargain compared to what we have now. It won't happen - something about absolute power corrupting absolutely...

I couldn't agree more with the observation that these hearings are an embarrassment. Some of the more radical elements of our political parties, particularly in the case of the Democrats, have taken increasing control of the political dialogue in this country. What we see in these confirmation hearings is a direct result of that usurpation.

What can we say when United States senators feel compelled to mouth the words of the likes of George Soros, Michael Moore, and others of their kind? One wonders if they don't themselves privately cringe at their own words, as they attempt to smear a good and honest man.

There are no winners in this farce. Not the senators who prostitute themselves for extremist donations to their re-election campaigns. Not the candidate and his family, who are viciously abused by the process. And certainly not the American people, who are watching their system of government devolve into insult and character assassination as matters of policy. We have to be able to do better than this.
