Somehow, ex, that reminds me of "Mars Attacks", where Slim Whitman's 'western music' caused the alien's heads to explode--which is all that saved the world in the end. \;-D

Slightly off-topic,

Iraq vote leaves Dems looking like the losers, says Mark Steyn, who's on a roll,

Heigh-ho. The Iraq election's over, the media did their best to ignore it, and, judging from the rippling torsos I saw every time I switched on the TV, the press seem to reckon that that gay cowboy movie was the big geopolitical event of the last week, if not of all time. Yes, yes, I know: They're not, technically, cowboys, they're gay shepherds, but even Hollywood isn't crazy enough to think it can sell gay shepherds to the world. And the point is, even if I was in the mood for a story about two rugged insecure men who find themselves strangely attracted to each other in a dark transgressive relationship that breaks all the rules, who needs Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger when you've got Howard Dean and Abu Musad al-Zarqawi? Yee-haw! And, if that sounds unfair, pick almost any recent statement by a big-time Dem cowboy and tell me how exactly it would differ from the pep talks Zarqawi gives his dwindling band of head-hackers -- Dean arguing that America can't win in Iraq, Barbara Boxer demanding the troops begin withdrawing on Dec. 15, John Kerry accusing American soldiers of terrorizing Iraqi women and children, Jack Murtha declaring that the U.S. Army is utterly broken. Pepper 'em with a handful of "Praise be to Allahs" and any one of those statements could have been uttered by Zarqawi.

And he goes on to say,

Bush lied, people dyed.

On the subject of Iran, DW News had a report titled, Irani reaction to Ahmadinejad's comments (available at http://www.dw-world.de/dw/0,1595,266,00.html, see right sidebar) that went to some great lengths to assure everybody that Ahmadinejad's just talking tough, and is not serious, and that "few Iranians believe a real crisis is going to develop over this".

I wonder what the Iranians would do if they had a chance at a free referendum -- not that Wyden would be agreeable to that, for the looks of it.

I think people ought to be thinking Biblically. A big white flash in the skies over Tel Aviv will set this world's two halves against each other in something akin to what we ain't quite prepared fer. Then, the left side of the aisle will want to have been a bit more assertive back when it would have made a difference.

.. or like dim-witted PETA-supporting 'peace activist' trolls that one day wake up to realize they are spending their golden-years contriving ways to support the world's greatest mysogynist psycho-killers.

personally, i see the dems admission they don't support "efforts by the people of Iran to exercise self-determination over the form of government of their country" as progress of sorts.

kind of like an alcoholic admitting they have a problem. a big one.
