In “Night” Elie relates the story where he lies to Stein about the well-being of Stein’s family. Some weeks later, Stein: “A transport’s just come in… they’re sure to have news.”

Elie continues: “We were not to see him again. He had had news. Real news.”

I read that some time back on page 42 of 109 in the paperback version I have. I’m not sure what emotion to apply exactly, but this passage was strong stuff for me, I’ve still not made it to page 43.

This was a very moving experience and I tried to simply write down what he said, but it was a great privilege to have heard Mr. Wiesel speak.
