He is UN-DEFEATED in the Finals of EVERY event he's played in. That being said it's unfortunate for tennis that Agassi's back flared up and needed a shot. I don't care what the announcers said it was obvious that he was tenative stretching for some shots and wasn't getting to some balls he normally would have. The problem with being 35 even if you're in top shape is not so much the loss of skills as it is the longer reovery time for your body. Playing on back to back days Semi and Finals is a lot. Sure is, and tennis isn’t unusual in this respect. In, say, gymnastics, it would be even more astonishing to find somebody competing at age 25.

One other thing about Andre Agassi is that he’s evidently one of the nicest athletes around, male or female, in any sport. I don’t think that anybody would make a corresponding statement about Mick Jagger.

When everything else is equal---the younger man has the clear advantage. Agassi nonetheless still adds to his already firmly established legend. Just competing in the finals is a mind boggling achievement. The outside chance of winning is mere icing on the cake. AndrÈ Agassi is an incredible athlete. Tennis is a young personís sport.
