What all the Leftists didn’t want, but were implicitly supporting in their desire to get the US out of Vietnam.

The choice was more war, until S. Vietnam could fight the N. Vietnamese “alone”, or leave and let evil commies win.

Anti-war folk, like Roger here (love your site), wanted “anything” but more fighting. And got something.

I don’t know who was responsible for casting Dan Hedaya, but it was a genius stroke. He was terrific–more Nixonian than Nixon and yet he was able to imbue the character with a certain (somewhat) redeeming sweetness–just a wonderful performance. The whole cast was great, but Hedaya was a standout.

My awakening was the U2 incident (for you kids, U2 was a spy plane before it was a rock group). The president–Ike for gawds sake–lied to us. For me it was a shock (like the day you find out your parents aren’t perfect), but those were more innocent times.

Thank you for responding–how wonderful is this new media that it allows communication on this level–and the fascinating glimpse inside the creative process. And thanks for a gem of a movie.

(There was a bit more of this in the original screenplay, but it was too black for a studio to swallow. Often after seeing a movie, I’ve thought ‘now I want to see the film the writer actually wrote’. I’m betting you and Roger have thought the same from time to time.)

You see, that is what is possible on blogs – and beyond the ability of the MSM.

Did Sasha get it right? Was it superfically a spoof on ATPM but really a riposte to JFK? Is that what Sheryl had in mind?

A disproportionate number of them live in one household though.

And the writer of the piece is writing a book on sushi and globalization. Yum.
